Desert Sportsman's Rifle and Pistol Club is an outdoor shooting range featuring facilities for rifle, pistol, and shotgun. It is a private membership club, but memberships are available. Check it out at http://www.dsrpc.net/

Hi Goerge, I've contemplated joining that club. I've checked the site and it sounds cool. I just don't know enough about it to join up. I'm wondering if the Desert Sportsman's Club is outside or inside. If it's outside, can I bring my steel targets? Is the road in the area paved or is it dirt road?
I've heard somewhere that they have 3 gun matches and stuff like that at this club. I've never tried any competition stuff, but I'd like to watch and maybe give it a try.
Anyhow, if anyone has a little info about Desert Sportsman's that would be great and thanks!

Eddie, I was a member of Desert Sportsman for a year or so, then they raised their rates for those under 60. I have plenty of friends who are members, and could go anytime as their guest. So, I dropped the membership. Now that I'm over 60, I am going to join again.
Although I've gone there many times, I've only shot pistols there. They have graded revetments for pistol shooting. You take your own stand and cardboard and paper targets. They don't allow shooting at clays, cans, etc. I see no reason why your own steel targets would be a problem, though. There is a clubhouse, of sorts, which I've never been in. The outdoor facilities are nice, but the structures look pretty bad. It's all graded dirt roads off the highway. There is a lot of group activity out there, and they do host a number of competitions. I've just never participated in any.

Thanks Eddie!
Well, I submitted a membership application to Desert Sportsman's earlier this week, and went out there this morning for a required Range Orientation program. It lasted just over one hour, and was very good. The speaker touched on weapon safety, but the orientation was mostly about the 10 different ranges, how they are set up, what they are used for, and what different rules apply to which ranges. There was a large group of new applicants in attendance. I gather from remarks I heard that many of them were from our local police academy. I should have my membership within a week or so. I'll report again on the programs and events being offered once I get my membership materials.
Incidentally, they have a website: http://www.dsrpc.net/
I used to go to this range with my Dad quite a number of years ago but we all just got busy with other things and stopped shooting for a while. Now I'm getting back in to it and I've submitted an application (right before Thanksgiving) and I'll be at the orientation on Dec 8th.
One of the best things about this range is that you can bring up to 4 guests who don't have to pay any fee. I think I've got a line of family members and coworkers that are just itching for me to get my membership completed.

I've been a member of Desert Sportsmen for a number of years now and find it to be a great place. Members are friendly and helpful, and the range officers there are supportive.
They are very safety minded, and that's one of the reasons for their long-term success. If you like outdoor shooting as I do, you'll be glad you became a member.
They have a lot of different kinds of matches which are publicized in the monthly newsletter.
Safe shooting. Have fun.
