The Las Vegas area, Clark County, Nevada is experiencing tremendous growth. We have over 7,000 new residents arriving every month. Can you imagine the new home building, schools, hospitals, sanitation facilities, roads, and other infrastructure improvements needed to accommodate what amounts to a new city of 100,000 every year? The city is pushing out and up so fast I can't keep track of it.

This kind of astounding growth brings all kinds of people with it. Unfortunately, some of them are bad guys, looking for an easy score, or a good place to hide. It's always been like that in boom towns. This is the wild west, for sure. And, the people coming in bring their old problems with them. Urban gangs are running largely unchecked in Las Vegas. Brand new housing tracts are soon no place to find yourself alone at night. They are like instant ghettos.

This is why having a CCW and carrying is so important around here. It's true that the gang bangers mostly foul their own nests. But, in Las Vegas, their "nest" is just across the street. And, to travel from home to the nearest grocery stores puts you right in their "territory."

I always carry when I go out. And, I try to remember my stages of alertness. I'm always in condition Yellow out there, and I find myself rising into condition Orange at least once or twice a week. At first, I thought that was a bit scary. But, now I'm used to it and it seems normal.

Well said, and I agree on many of your points.

We do have our share of crime in Las Vegas, no doubt about it. I've seen it first hand and even been the victim of an armed robbery myself. Another time a man tried to open my passenger side door while I was stopped at a red light. The door was locked and he then said "can I have a ride?". Pretty creepy. I doubt he saw the Glock under my thigh. These occurances are rare of course, and I still love living here.

I am glad to have my CCW rights. They give good law abiding citizens a fighting chance against criminals who would do them harm given half a chance. I didn't have a CCW when I was robbed in a store as at 22, but I feel much safer having one now. I practice my right by carrying almost everyday and practicing at least monthly. I still don't shoot as good as I wish I did, but it's fun trying to get there!

Eddie, you caused me to go back and re-read my post here. Yes, I also agree with most of what I said. 8) But, I will admit that I was in sort of a dour mood when I wrote that posting. So, I wish to make a clarifying statement:

Las Vegas is a GREAT place to live! I love it here. Yes, we have problems, but so what. Everyone has problems. The good here way outweighs the bad. If I didn't like it here, I'd sell and move in a heartbeat. There is nothing keeping me here other than the sheer joy of living in this town. So there it is. That's the rest of the story!

Las Vegas is a great place to live. Our 'shall issue' system is one of the many reasons to enjoy it.

P.S. I noticed that OpenCarry.Org now lists Nevada as a 'Gold Star' state.
