I sat down with one of my long term best friends and he had gone to a new doctor.

The doctor asked 1: Do you own a gun; 2: do you have a safe: 3: how much ammunition do you have in your house? 4: how many guns

Wow! He did not answer it as he felt that it violated his rights even though he has a safe and only has 100 rounds of 9mm. That is two boxes of shells.

Think of the implications that this brings on. If the insurance companies are starting to collect this for the government, what a sneaky way to start tracking the gun owners.

I think I would see that question, stand up and take the papers with me as I left the office, and might call back later to tell them that not only would I never see him as a patient, I'd be making a point of telling everyone I knew that he had so little regard for his prospective patients, he would ask irrelevant questions with a political agenda. You're right, Stuart, it IS a sneaky way to do gun registration, and I won't participate in it. That phone call back to the office later would be made anonymously, so it wouldn't be obvious which patient refused to be seen on those grounds.

B

I copied the form below from PDO when it was still around- a fellow poster made it available. I thought I'd posted it here once before, but I can't find it. The server might have cleared it off automagically.

This makes my blood boil . I don't believe it is a doctors place to ask me about my gun ownership. Only a few of my family and only one very close friend knows how many guns I have or where they are located. No one knows how much ammo I have for each and I certainly wouldn't share any of that info with a doctor.

Wow where was this? I could see them asking things like that in CA or NY. Theyre almost completely against guns in those states.

OK, what we need to do is draft a similar form asking about doctors. Then we could distribute them to gun stores with instructions to have their customers fill them out before purchasing a gun or ammo.

I think it's common knowledge that more people are killed by bad medicine than by gunshot.

That is an example of unethical physician conduct called boundary violations.

Here's an exerpt from an article on such violations....

"Patients do have remedies for the boundary-crossing doctor. In today's competitive health care market most patients can choose from many doctors. Changing doctors is the simplest solution. A written complaint to the health plan's membership services department can send a powerful message that boundary violations by doctors will not be tolerated. If the problem persists, patients can file a complaint with the doctor's state licensing board. Medical licensing boards are increasingly aware of the problem of boundary violations. Although state boards have addressed primarily sexual and financial misconduct, the broad principles they have developed to guide doctors in these areas apply to the entire doctor-patient relationship."

I believe the ratio for doctors "dangerousness" over guns is 7:1.

Bill, I like that form for doctors. That reminds me of when I stopped at my brothers house to visit. He had stopped at my older brothers house and picked up something from my dads estate, his old 12 guage double barrel shotgun and took it to his house for me to pick up when I visited. His wife is anti-gun and was upset because she was at her pediatritian and she said she "had to lie" because he asked if there were any guns in the house.

At our Dr's office they have us fill out a "Health" questionaire about yearly. One of the questions on it asks, "Have you been hit or threatened by anyone lately" My wife answers MYOB(mind your own business), I answer None of your damn business. Neither of us have ever had any comment made to us about our answers. No questions about guns as yet.
We believe it's the hospital association the Dr. is associated with. :?:
