...we all need em'. What kind do you use for CCW? I'll start..

I used SmartCarry for a couple years. It is a well crafted deep cocealment type holster. I could easily conceal all day long with it wearing any outfit. The only drawback is well, the draw. It's way to slow for me. It's hard to draw while sitting down as well. Still it served me well for a while.

I now use the MTAC from Comp-Tac. Now this a comfortable IWB holster! It works well for me at 3:00, and my gun just will not move with the standard belt clips. Of course you need a decent belt to get the best results, but this is a holster that I can safely recommend for anyone interested in an IWB holster.

So what do you all like?

I've not been back to their site for a while, so I don't know if "MTAC" is a typo or really is one of their models. Regardless, I use the CTAC from the same company, Comp-Tac (http://www.comp-tac.com), and couldn't be happier with it, with the exception that when one of my dogs was a pup, he managed to pull my pants off of where I had them while I was sleeping and was knawing on the empty holster. It's now a bit rough where I straightened it out and sandpapered it down, but that's certainly not the company's fault. Top-notch holster which I'd recommend to anyone wanting an IWB.

Blessings,
M

For pure comfort, ease of draw, and accessibility, nothing beats OWB. Unfortunately, OWB does not conceal well in the summer, and OWB for open carry makes retention an issue. That is why I use SmartCarry in the summer and reserve OWB for the winter, when I am able to wear a coat or jacket over my holster (a Fobus paddle holster).

Nodaywithout - There's no doubt that belt clip holsters are convenient, and do the job. But, I have found that they do not hold the gun as tightly against the body as a well designed threaded belt holster. And, I've found paddle holsters to be even more loosely fitting. Where concealment is an issue, having the gun as tight as possible against the body is a big advantage. So, I would say, invest in a good threaded belt holster, and put up with the inconvenience of having to loosen your belt to put it on and take it off.

I carry my Kimber HD in a Highnoon OWB most of the year and in the summer I carry my G26 in a Highnoon IWB. They both have worked well and have held up great.

I've been using a Fobus 'convertable' for quite a while with an 'Officers Model'-size 1911. Both the holster and magazine 'pouch' attach to either a paddle or shoulder harness with one central screw, making the change fast and simple. Both hold adequately, requiring little force to deploy the handgun or reload.

I find the unit convenient and completely concealable, given my build and choice of attire, in either configuration, with two caveats: Although the design of the holster allows for infinite angles of carry in either, I prefer the comfort of my Jackass-style leather shoulder holster for extended carry, and when used for either belt or shoulder carry, the screw securing the holster (or mag holder) must be regularly checked and occasionally tightened. This only applies, of course, should one opt for the interchangeability of hip or shoulder carry - if used exclusively for either, a drop of Loc-TiteŽ, once the preferred carry angle is established, will obviate the necessity (but one would still be advised to occasionally check).
