What's your favorite CCW gun?
Mine is probably my Glock 26. It's easy to conceal, and very accurate for me. Mine is the most accurate pistol I own. It's a great little shooter!

I carry a Kimber Ultra Carry CDP II, 45. I shoot best with it. Before choosing it, I tried a wide variety of guns at our local indoor ranges. I haven't gone back to try later models, but I'll get around to that one day.

I carry a Glock 22. I have a 22c, but I have not decided to start carrying it yet. I probably should, as it has Trijicon night sights. But the 22, I got for my 40th birthday.

It seems kind of strange, but after carrying for over 10 years due to run ins with bad guys, I pick different guns for different areas.
In town - Taurus .357 snubbie/Bond Arms Texas Defender/Springfield Arms 1911
The holster makes the difference -
In the woods working - 10mm/ Springfield Arms 1911/Ruger SP101 357
I would like to hear from others as to what is the best or thier pick for a "best concealed" pistol. :D
I have to go with Stubob, best is what works.
I am a 1911 45 nut and it is the hands down favorite to carry in Calif and most of the US, yet in most parts of the world my Hi Power is the choice, due to availability of 9mm and magazines, very few countries use .45, and the Hi Power it is still in use with many organizations throughout the world.
Deep cover, I have been known to carry my CZ50 and I always have my mdl 85 Taurus around. All but the CZ have Crimson Trace grips.
Alaska, where I spend some time with my son and his family each year, it is my Ruger Redhawk 44Mag. Or my 870 with slugs.
What a great country!!! Our choice of what we want and where we go. Be thankfull and shoot evey chance you get.

Pre-agreement Smith & Wesson model 629 .44 magnum.
As expensive as ammunition is these days, I'd rather not have to expend two rounds to stop a crime.
Standing wolf, Please explain a pre agreement 629??
Thanks, DAN

If I may jump in, Dan, I think he means that it's a Smith from before Smith sold out to the Klinton administration. You know, when Smith still had integrity.
(Yes, I know they're making efforts to return to that. Despite the old saying, I'm not sure if you can go home again or not.

Nice quote. I will add this to my, "Why did you shoot him so many times?" "Because he was not falling fast enough" quote.
I carry a Bersa Thunder 380. It is a rather inexpensive gun, it's small and very accurate. I don't carry the conceal carry version, just the normal one. It is plenty light and easy to carry. From 10-15 yards I have a real tight pattern on the target. The only thing I don't like is the ammo. I think it is a bit high in price and it is a pretty small shell compared to others. To combat the shell size, I carry with Bor-Bons in it. Even more expensive, but I target practice with regular JHP.
I really like the gun and recommend it to anyone looking for a small inexpensive gun.

Carrying and shooting a .44 Magnum DOES NOT by any means guarantee the fight will end after one round fired; in fact, most likely it will take quite a bit more...
Getting back to the question, I carry a .45ACP Government in urban conditions (7+1) and switch to a Para P16/40 (converted to 10mm - 16+1) when in rural or forest environments. In either case, I have an Officer's in .45ACP as a back-up...

I just had to get back in here. Yes, carry the largest caliber gun that you can comfortably and accurately handle. But, beyond that, realize that you are going to be lugging the thing around for thousands of hours. For that reason, look for something small and light. My Kimber with its 3" barrel and aluminum frame fits that bill nicely. But, I've seen any number of other weapons that do the same.
Why am I posting this obvious comment?
Folks that are new to guns and CCW may be overly impressed with "big" guns. And, big and "heavy" seem to go together. For self defense, shorter barrels are perfectly OK. And, there are plenty of short barrel pistols available in all the standard calibers.
To carry around every day, look for small and light.

I agree, my Kimber HD is my favorite. But, I notice that my Baby Glock goes on more walks.

I pretty much always carry a M&P 40C. Plenty of stopping power, easy to carry and conceal. Ultra reliability, and light. I also carry a Smith Airweight sometimes and also carry my Para Ordinance 45 ACP IWB when I don't have too tight a waistband. I have to admit, carrying a 45 ACP full size definitely pulls down the old waistband but I is awesome carrying such a nice piece. I plan on purchasing a Kimber compact 45 acp some day or some Commander size auto.

I am glock fanboy, I want my gun to work when it needs to, and glock has an excellent reputation. Albeit some people may find the lack of "manual safety" disconcerting, and trigger pull awkward you get used to it very quickly. the 23 (40 s&w) conceals nicely, even on a skinny runt like me. and 13+1 is nothing to sneeze at. With a reload that's 27 rounds of Federal Premium HP, I feel comfortable. Add a comfortable Galco Leather IWB cozy parter, and it's a good solution for anyone. Except for maybe small hands since it is a double stack.

I think I carry the runt of the litter. A Kel-Tec P32. :P It's extremely compact, inexpensive and sure fits nicely in almost any pocket. I do, however, have to admit that finding ammo especially at a reasonalble price can be a bit burdensome.

Aim Surplus ( http://www.aimsurplus.com ) has 50 rounds of .32 ACP FMJ for $10.50. It's prvi partisan, out of Serbia, but they wouldn't sell it if it was bad ammo.

If it's not too late to put my two cents in: I will mostly carry in a fanny pac. Normally a CZ83 or Glock 19 in Wallyworld or out for a stroll. If I go to the hills or in what would be considered hostile territory I would most likely carry my Glock .45. But that's just me. All three are easy to shoot and reliable. I feel the .45 has extremely reliable knock-down power.

H&K P2000 .40 S&W is my gun of choice. Great stopping power and it's not a big/heavy gun to carry. Great gun!

These post always go the same way. No offense, I do it too, but we just rattle on about our favorite gun. Ever notice they're all semi's?? Me too - gotta' admit. Kimber Ultra Carry II .45 ACP. No fancy sights or anything. Just black.
The funny thing is, I read a report asking former CIA, Feds, Generals, and various "Gun Guys" what they carry in retirement, and by far, they relied on mid size double action revolvers chambered in, get this, 38! and guess what else? Very few carried extra ammo. I think it got posted on another forum. Of course, I believe EVERYTHING I read on the internet  I'll try to find it.
Oh well, the way things go..... Like I said, I go with the semi also.
Hey, I'm not in retirement, or even close.
I carry a S&W Model 60 no dash (I'm dashing enough) in .38. Once in a while, I'll carry my Model 15-3 (still in .38).
On rare occasions, I'll carry a 1911, but I don't really like it. Safeties scare me, not that they'll fail, but that they'll work and I won't be able to fumble finger my way to ready the gun when needed. I know, training is the answer, but I still just like .38s.
My only complaint about the Model 60 is that it is stainless. I'm a hard core blue steel and wood grips kinda guy. And a tight revolver that is mechanically sound but shows wear just adds to its character.[/img]

Bill--Rights, I'm shocked! That is ancient history. Smith & Wesson has been back on board for years, having dumped that Limey previous owner, now solidly back in American hands. I boycotted S&W when they went over to the Dark Side. When I bought another brand, I wrote S&W a letter telling them about their lost sales. I can assure you they are 100% back home.
My current preferred carry pistol is a S&W model 457, .45acp, with 3.5 inch barrel, loaded with Federal EFMJ 200 gr. +P rounds, carried most of the time in a BladeTech Kydex paddle holster, strong side, with at least one spare magazine. Several others waiting in the wings. 8)

In fairness, Pioneer, I was responding to what another poster had said and was explaining what a "pre-agreement" firearm was in this context, as I understood it. I own no S&W guns, but they are the American rep that handles my Walther. I don't have a personal issue with them and if one comes my way, I'll not reject it without considering it solely on the basis of a Klintonista agreement, but neither will I automatically drop cash on it solely because it's a S&W.
Not having personal experience with them, I can't evaluate your statement about them being 100% back home. Opinions such as this are the kind of thing that make me more willing to discount past bad decisions they made, however.
Thanks for posting.
Blessings,
B
As I said, I've got a fondness for S&Ws, and the ones I use are all pre-agreement, actually, all of mine still have the firing pin mounted on the hammer. I buy these for a couple reasons.
1) Used guns are cheaper, cheaper guns mean more money for ammo.
2) Those old guns with hammer mounted pins and pinned barrels mean they came from a time when there was a good chance that a craftsman's hands were actually involved in making sure the gun went together properly, and they still shoot beautifully.
3) Saw this on another board - No matter how "better" a new car is over the old model, that '68 Camaro just reeks of COOL.
The whole agreement/lock/MIM parts whatever arguments are OK, but you can't say that you're "dashing enough for two" when your revolver has to have its dash marked in the frame. 8)
