Has anyone read about the new Ruger LCP .380? Apparantly Ruger announced it at the SHOT show in Vegas. I normally carry a Glock 26 or a S&W Sigma .40, but this small little .380 looks like a Kel-Tec, but with a few better features. It may be a good concealed carry weapon when you do not want to carry the bigger ones. What do you think?

“The Ruger LCP is a 6+1 capacity .380 Auto pistol with superior ergonomic design and handsome styling. It incorporates state-of-the-art polymers, aircraft quality aluminum alloys, and high-grade precision steel components engineered for strength and maximum weight savings.
The 9.4 ounce LCP pistol features a 2.75 inch barrel and an overall length of 5.16 inches. With a height of only 3.6 inches and a width of just .82 inches, the small, lightweight LCP pistol is a dependable back-up or carry pistol. The high-performance, glass-filled nylon frame is topped by a through-hardened steel slide with a blued finish. The Ruger LCP pistol is a natural choice for personal defense carry, in a purse, briefcase, or inside hiking gear.”
Each LCP comes with a soft case, instruction manual, external locking device and one magazine. For more information on the Ruger LCP pistol, visit the specially designed microsite at http://www.ruger.com/LCP/.”

Hi Snowball, It seems to fit the bill. They have a pretty good ad on their website. If I didn't already have a CZ83 & Sig232 in .380 I'd be in the market for one. It looks as if it has a pretty good recoil if you look at the ad. Of course you would think that already with something that weighs that little.

Cheers,
J.C.

It looks great, but I did not see a price on the site?

I shot it on range day, friday. It was in there both saturday thru tuesday.

I'm a metal gun kind of guy. I'll stick with my colt mustang. It is kel-tec like.

It is more like a Kel-Tec copy, but it is a Ruger with a locking slide when empty. The polymer instead of metal makes it that much lighter to carry all day....even in a pocket when you do not want to carry the big bore CCW. I have one on order.

Hmmm, You'd think they could remove the molding flash from the frame for the picture spread on their site...Haven't they heard of Photoshop? My Ruger Mark II is great for bulls-eye, I've not been overly impressed with their centerfire autoloaders--they seem pretty average.

It has my interest up. I definately will fondle one when they arrive at my gunshop. Also I have seen a couple of companies offering .380 in +P. Claim is that it rivals the .38 special. Interesting. 8)

I'm interested in it too. Especially since Rugers generally are Mass. Compliant, while the Kel-Tecs no longer are. The only Kel-Tec you can get now is a used one that someone owned and decided to sell. Last gun show I went to, the only one I saw had a $795 price tag on it (you read that right), and while I'd like one for Summer carry, no way can it be worth that much.

Just picked up a Kel-Tec PF-9 blue $249.00 new, wife bought a new P3AT blue about a month ago for $239.00.

If you're wondering if the +P 380 in a Kel-Tec P3AT or the Ruger clone is as good as a .38 special, look at this:

http://www.ktog.org/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1202857757

One of the conclusions of this test was: "The P3AT with BB Gold Dot is a formidable defensive weapon - penetrating almost 14 inches of plaster with a half inch+ diameter wound path after going through denim and rib cage. Compare the P3AT with BB Gold Dot at 236 ftlb actual measured energy with a S&W SnubNose 38cal +P Double Tap Gold Dot at actual measured 199 ftlb. I'll take the P3AT any day.".

I keep my P3At loaded with 7 Buffalo Bore Gold Dots for defense. It's a great CCW gun. The Ruger LCP may be even better. At least it has a slide lock. However, I really like my P3AT. I have a hardchrome-black one.

Handled a LCP yesterday. Prettier gun than the P3AT. However I bought the Kel Tec a few weeks ago. Both priced the same. A buddy was with me yesterday (retired deputy sheriff), he fondled both and ended up buying the Kel Tec. LCP does look nice though.

If you have a Cabela's near you, you can buy Buffalo Bore 380 +P from Cabela's website http://www.cabelas.com/ and have it shipped free to your local Cabela's store. This is without a doubt the best CCW round for these neat little 380s! BTW: I think that you're going to love your Kel-Tec. Also, my P3AT is Hard Chrome and black and I think that it's prettier than the LCP but that just my opinion. I like two-tone guns.

I have been on a waiting list for 90 days and finally got the Ruger LCP. It ran $285.00 including tax and shipping to my local FFL. Too bad it only comes with one 6 round magazine.....spares are backordered. But I am impressed with it. It is much better than my P11 KelTec.

I was actually looking at the P3AT and the LCP as a possible summer pocket gun (in pocket holster of course). I tend to lean twoards the Ruger because of the slide lock. I've heard good things about the P3AT though. I just really prefer when I'm shooting for the slide to be locked back after the last round, ready for a fresh mag and quick chambering of another round.

I'm probably gonna go by the local gun shop and see if they have one tommorrow.

Snoball,

How did it do on the first visit to the range? Did you fire more than 100 rounds through it? Thanks! Can't wait to get my hands on one myself.

Oh also I think Ruger's website has extra mags available.

I shot 100 rounds and it functions perfect. I did find out that I am not too good a shot with such a small semi-auto. I managed to keep them on the paper at 7 yards, but not in the ring I wanted. The recoil is not a problem, but holding on to it and getting an accurate shot was difficult for me. However, it is now the gun I take most places because it fits anywhere, even a pocket and would do the job.
