I'm not a CCW holder, but i am thinking about getting licensed. i'm excited to be here and hope to learn more about it.

Hey Skoden! Where are you located?
Do you shoot now? If so, what gun(s) are you using.

i am originally from CA but i'm going to school in UT, which is considerably more gun friendly than san diego. i do shoot now. i like to shoot trap a lot and for that i use a Rem 870. i also have and shoot a little .22 ruger a lot. i am looking more at larger caliber pistols, but my student's budget hasn't allowed for a purchase in that direction (neither has my wife). Shotgun and pistol are my favorites, but i dabble in rifle sometimes (i'm not particularly good with a rifle).
Skoden, welcome from a person in Calif. You should be able to find enough info on this site to make a decision to carry or not. If you need help we are here.

I, too, have a Ruger 22. Mine is what they call the 22/45, that's because it's built on a 1911 (Colt 45) shaped frame. The idea is that someone who shoots a 1911 45 will feel comfortable with the 22, and can practice with it as if they were shooting the 45. So, if that's the one you have, you will find it very easy to switch over to any number of 1911 style 45s when the time is right.
I don't know what the attitude of the Sheriff in San Diego County is about CCWs. But, seriously consider getting one if you can. The way California is going, it may be a vanishing opportunity.

My ruger is also the 22/45 type. It is a Mark II. i love it! it's fun and cheap to shoot. the only problem that i have had with it is that the front sight screw comes loose after about 10 rounds. i have to screw it back in every time i load a new magazine. have you had a similar problem. i have been thinking of putting nail polish on the screw to anchor it better but i have shunned away from doing anything so far.

Skoden, if I were you, I'd just put some Loctite Threadlocker on that screw. You should be able to find it at just about any hardware store.
