Sitting at my computer just now, I heard my wife calling my name, first in a normal sounding tone of voice, then in a panicked tone. Fortunately, my gun was only a few feet away from me. I grabbed it and rushed into our bedroom suite. She had heard what she thought were soft footsteps coming down the hallway toward her. She panicked when she realized that I was still in the living room. As it turned out, the noise she heard was probably just the sound of some tree branches moving with the wind against the side of the house. But, this is actually the first time I have had to respond to such a call. Good practice, but unsettling.

Last week there was a nighttime home invasion and murder just two miles from our home.

Glad to read that all worked out well. Far preferable that it be tree branches. More so that she will soon be able to dispatch such threats herself.

Blessings,
Bill

had a scare where the dogs barked inside of the hose and then ran out of my room, the dogs don't bark inside of the house unless something is wrong, my roommate and i both had our pistols and cleared the house it was not nice to be scared to the point where the gun is out of the holsters in less than 5 seconds after the dogs reaction.

Alright,
I'm going back quite a few years here & I should be too dignified to tell this one, but a state of alarm can put you into a different mindset, so I thought I'd share;
One morning, 2 AMish (near 2 AM, not Amish time :? ), some years ago, the dog (one at the time) barked & ran to the door, awakening me. That's when I heard it. I'd know that sound anywhere. We have a heavy storm door that had some "play" in the lock. You needed to turn the knob all the way, or the door would just make a loud thump, and there was that thump. In fact, it thumped repeatedly. After waking the wife & doing the secret agent ninja roll out of bed, I grabbed my blued bedside baby & put my HD plan into effect.
As I peered around the corner of the common room & out the window (20 ft away) that was near the door I got my first look at my adversary.
Man, I could have picked him out of a lineup. Especially the unmistakeable blue & gray of his NE Patriots jacket. I could see him moving on the step, followed by a thump or two on the door. Then, suddenly, I noticed that the trees were moving a lot, and the windchimes were clanging constantly. A closer inspection of the BG yeilded interesting results :idea: ; He was a blue & silver flag. My wife buys those darn big flags for every holiday & hangs them next to the door. It had become extremely windy in the night. A flag I hadn't seen yet was blowing across the step & the vacuum effect was thumping the door. :oops: :oops:
I suppose I could say; "The flag scared me one night", but when it's happening, it's all too real.
The mind can indeed play tricks in tense situations. Some refer to it as BAR (Body Alarm Response); Tunnel vision, loss of fine motor skills (one reason for the grips on the slide of a semi, large safeties, no safeties on Glocks etc). In my case, this "Happy Easter" flag almost got a few holes in the Easter Bunny.
Too bad we can't post photos. In the daylight, I could hang that flag & show the view (minus the action) . It's surprising.

The tricks which our minds can play on us, like your flag Tanzer, are amazing. While it's happened to me a number of times, it has never been a life or death self defense type situations like yours. Thanks for sharing George and Tanzer.
