and ask them to
SUPPORT HB-1061; and
OPPOSE HB-849, HB-880, HB-900, HB-964, HB-1378, HB-1474, & HB-1565
Of these, probably the most important is HB-880 which would penalize owners who do not report a gun theft within 72 hours. This simply criminalizes the victim.
Senate:
A bunch of BAD bills - SB-244, SB-558, SB-585, SB-586 & SB 642 were heard last Thursday:
SB-244 "Use of Firearm in the Commission of a Crime of Violence or Felony" does not change the law, but it does change the definition of a "firearm" - making it include antique firearms for the first time.
http://mlis.state.md.us/2008rs/billfile/sb0244.htm
SB-558 increases the time served for illegal possession of a regulated firearm
http://mlis.state.md.us/2008rs/billfile/sb0558.htm
SB-585 is the bill requiring owners to report lost or stolen guns ... making criminals out of the victims.
http://mlis.state.md.us/2008rs/billfile/sb0585.htm
SB-586 prohibits possession of firearms by those who have a protective order against them. If they are a threat with a firearm then they are a threat with a baseball bat, car, knife, etc. This is simply a way of attacking guns.
http://mlis.state.md.us/2008rs/billfile/sb0586.htm
SB-642 prohibits the pre-trial release of someone accused of a 2nd gun crime. Why the special treatment for guns?

These bills have not been voted on in committee yet.
