View Full Version : Sig Lead Time, General Rudeness

This is my first post and I'm frankly a little irritated. I realize that Sig was just awarded a Gov't contract for the p229 DAK, one of which I ordered 8 weeks ago. Does it really take that long to ship?? American Shooters has been unhelpful to the point of rudeness on the two occasions that I have inquired about the status of my order, "If it was here we would have called you." That was it. Deadpan. No hang on let me check, no let me check the display case full of Sig handguns that we just got in, nothing. I guess I don't mind the waiting if it has to do with Sig, but I get the feeling that a slightly scruffy looking 25 year old coming in on his day off to pick up some ammo and inquire about his PAID FOR handgun doesn't get the same consideration as a LEO. At least that was the impression I got, American Shooter has a great rep with LEO's that I'm friends with, or have been aquainted with as a locksmith, but seriously how long does it take to get a new SIG. I appologize in advance if this is not the appropriate place for my little rant, but I can't get my CCW without a handgun and if I can't get a handgun et cetera ad nauseum.

Hey Swift Locksmith, welcome aboard, and it's good to hear form you!
Yup, you got them figured out down at American Shooters alright. That's why I don't buy anything but range time from them. The last time I called there asking about buying a gun, I laughed out loud at the quoted price. Then the salesman started laughing too. Finally he said, "Hey, I just work here. I don't set the prices."
I'm sorry to hear that they are treating you poorly. I hope you didn't pay way too much. Next time, go to Master Shooters Supply, or one of the other gun stores carrying good recommendations from our Nevada members.
See you on the forum!
PS: If you know you're "scruffy looking," why not do something to clean up your appearance? It couldn't hurt.

Thanks for the reply, VegasGeorge. The price with the Brady check was below Sig's MSRP, $890 with night sights. I don't mind the money so much as the attitude... anyone who supports Law Enforcement is good in my book as I work with lot's of Constables, who all have had extensive LEO experience, in addition to my friends at North Las Vegas PD - too tight knit for my tastes, but good people all the same. Beyond my irritation at the staff, is a 6-8 + week lead time typical of Sig or am I getting the shaft?

Oh, and it's my day off and I don't like to shave, the Italian(Grizzly Bear) part of me demands that I be scruffy looking if a razor hasn't been involved in the last 12 hours...

No.. I don't think it would take that long to ship from any mfg. Most places if you order a gun can have it within a couple of days.
What did the store tell you when you bought it? Did they check for availability or just take your money?
I hate to hear that happened to you, I for one for one hate to wait for stuff, and I really hate to wait for a handgun.
Who are you inquiring about the status of your gun? Anybody behind the counter? Depending on what you were told when you bought it, I would be looking to contact the the owner of the store or at least someone responsible for the ordering from SIG. It would not be the first time orders and taken at the counter, but failed to be ordered from the mfg.
I have no paitence for rude counter people. No reason for you to be rude or ugly back, but just because you are young doesn't mean you can't ask for someone in charge for resolution.
ADDED:
One thing I will add. Someone local took his gun back to the dealer to have some warranty work done on it. After it took him WAY to long to get the gun back he called SIG and found out the dealer had not sent his gun back to SIG to be repaired, but to a local gunsmith instead. Don't take it for granted that every store is honest.

Okay, minor retraction, my complaint was with one of those employees that equates to "that guy". The rest of the staff that I dealt with today was very helpful, they even let me cancel my order and pick an off the rack model p229 with the standard trigger instead of the DAK. So in short I own a Sig P229R .40, only thing that irks me now is that after 10 weeks the 72 hour waiting period just started.
Oh well... gives me time to finally change the address on my DL since they want that done before they "release" my gun.
I still don't like their outlook since I talked to a bail bondsman that got the exact model Sig I ordered within three days of ordering it. They could have been up front about LE orders taking precidence over civilian orders or some such when I first placed the order and gave them my money.
