View Full Version : Interesed in Springfield EMP
Having small hands, needing a small grip pistol for CC, I am very interested in feedback from those of you with a Springfield EMP. Although I have not been able to locate on in my area as yet, I like what I've read and seen. Thanks[/b]

Hi Anne, and welcome to CarryConcealed! http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd198/St-Michael/wave.gif
Take a look at http://www.gunbroker.com for a lead on this pistol. If you can find it there, you can have it shipped to the FFL of your choice so you can pick it up legally. Alternatively, depending on where you live and where the pistol is now, you might find it from another citizen from whom you can buy it directly.
Good luck and good shooting!
Blessings,

It looks & feels a heck of a lot like a skinny Kimber Ultra Carry. To me, that's a good thing. A three inch barrel, weighs in around 23 - 25 oz. Classic 1911 styling, less than 7" long overall. A nice 9mm carry piece, so what's not to like? Oh yeah, it costs around 1200 bucks. Truth be told, I'd like one, but it'll be a while before I can justify the cost. I've shot one (five rounds or so) and it's crisp and snappy like other Springfields. Of course, the XD line is pricey, too. Overall, it seems well-made. I think it holds 9 rounds in the mag. I liked the ambidextrous safety also. If you can part with the dough, I'd say you could do a lot worse.
I appreciate the replies so far and will indeed look into gunbrokers.com. 9 mm is not my first choice at this time, but I may re-think that.

So..... If you were thinking .45 ACP, it would be quite similar, but a touch wider.
I'm not peddling them, just pointing something out.
I am wanting a .45 --- I've about resigned myself to the fact that it will just take a lot longer to locate one than I thought. I've been in touch with a lady at Springfield and the dealers she recommended in this area do not have one right now. I really wanted to put my hands on it before I ordered one (even if I did locate one out of state).

Anne.. have you handled the small kimbers??? I just bought a new Tactical ultra II and it is great small pistol. I understand your delima. I have realative small hands for a guy and have trouble with the larger grips. No matter what you choose , if it isn't comfortable , you won't like it...good luck.

I went the 9mm route myself due to the price of ammo these days. Plus, I can practice more.
The Springfield and Kimber 45s are sweet, though. Have you looked at the M&P? It has different size backstraps, so you can change the size of the grip. The small one would probably be perfect for you. They have a 45 full size and are now coming out with a 45 compact.
Just a suggestion, that's all.
I did end up finding and buying a EMP 9mm and am VERY happy with it. I've gone through about 500 rounds in two months time and after the first 25-50, I've not had a single problem. This pistol does take a bit more lubrication, which is no problem either. I love it. Thanks everyone for your input. - Anne
