View Full Version : Women and holsters
I do not think a purse is where I want to keep my CCW, nor my ankle. Seems like many of you guys have at least 3 holsters before you find a favorite. I would love a census on most favored types. Any ideas? Women are at a slight disadvantage with snug fitting clothing, but I am open to changes and suggestions for safety sake.

Hi Anne! Welcome to the board. Good to have you here.
I actually prefer to carry in a bag. Unfortunately, us men have some issues about carrying bags, so it pretty much limits us to fanny packs. I've always thought that women had it much easier with the seemingly endless choices of bags you can carry without raising eyebrows. And, you women have a wide (no pun intended) choice of looser fitting clothing. That should make carrying a concealed weapon much easier. Just my thoughts. :D

Holsters usually require belts, and this limits the choice for a woman. A really LIGHT pistol, such as a lightweight Smith, can open up your options. Today I went to town for a supply run and not wanting to wear a holster I dropped my 342 TiLite into my Carhartt vest pocket. Undetectable and light enough to not even be noticed by the wearer.
The lightest practical belt holster I have found to be satisfactory as a CCW solution is the Don Hume JIT-slide, now distributed by Oklahoma Leather.
There is no simple, quick solution to the holster enigma. We all spend years looking for the best, trying the rest, and accumulating "examples" in our Not-Used-Much box. Welcome to the club!
I recommend you checking out cornerdcat.com - its a website with women in mind, hosted by a poster from TheHighRoad.org - there is a lot of great info for men there, but mainly for women.
As for what I like - I carry a S&W Mod 60 in either a pocket holster, Fobus paddle or Bianchi IWB holster. For me, the paddle is the most comfortable, but the pocket (depending on pants) is the most convienent.
Welcome to the site.

Tuna mentioned corneredcat.com. She's an excellent resource!
Another good one would be Limatunes, she posts here, I believe.
Welcome aboard, and glad to have you!
Thanks very much to you all and I am reading with interest the different ideas and places to do more reading. With a new weapon to accomodate, I am not going to rush this decision. I need at least another 10-20 trips to the range before I am completely comfortable to carry my new sweet EMP.
