Lifetime NY permit

I noticed on the legal page that some counties issue a lifetime permit. This seems interesting as I thought only Indiana issued lifetime permits. How many counties issue a lifetime premit? I'm guessing these might be easier counties to get an unrestricted permit as well.

Someone made comment about this several months ago and I meant to follow it up then and forgot to do so. It would seem that Indiana is the only state to issue lifetime LTCs, however, some counties in NY State do issue that way. I don't know which counties do what in PRNY, however.

I got a permit in Genesee County, NY, when I turned 18. IIRC it had no expiration date. That was in 1957.

Most NY counties issue good unless revoked permits.
I am in Clinton County, lifetime.
the duration of the permit has no bearing on whether or not you can get
an unresticted permit.
that is up to the issuing authority who can be anyone from a sherrif, to a low court judge
to a higher ranking judge to whomever happens to be the issuing authority at the time.
the ultimate issueing authority is the Superintendent of the State Police.
we who live in this mess know the permit process in NY state is a joke from the get go.
it is however what it is.
some half hearted efforts have tried to sort this out and standardize things but as of right now, its still a mess with no end in sight.
I guess leaving well enough alone may be a prudent course of action as due to the fact that some counties have clean CCW and others have unsupported restrictions added on the authorities don;t want to have to sort it out either so they pretty much leave you alone as long as you do have the license.
I know alot of folks who carry in spite of the restictions on their permits and have never had a problem, as a matter of fact I know of only one person that had his permit revoked and that was because he posted a rant on the State Police and posted pictures with his weapons implying that he was armed as well...the key work here is was.
BCI paid him a visit and removed all his guns and his permit as well.
He moved to Vermont where there are no gun laws at all....

Fishman, Welcome to the forum. At least New York state does issue permits. I'm sure part of your problem is having New York City in your state. Here in Illinois the Chicago area has the majority of the population and legislators in the state. LTC legislation doesn't get out of committee for a vote.

Downstate legislators in Illinois are much more supportive of LTC legislation. Republicans and Democrats alike in southern Illinois have sponsored legislation.
