Could someone be kind enough to point out where, in the WV state code, "Law enforcement offices or stations" are identified as off limits?

In my opinion, the third item in the list below is incorrect.

Locations in West Virginia Where Firearms are Restricted or Forbidden

Firearms, concealed or otherwise, are by law not allowed in the following locations:

1. Federal government properties or other places where firearms are prohibited by federal law. This includes areas of restricted access in airports.
2. Any private property where firearms are prohibited by the owner or operator.
3. Law enforcement offices or stations.
4. Regional jails, detention facilities or State Division of Corrections facilities.
5. County courthouses or any facility housing a court of this state.
6. Any school building, property or grounds or any school bus or conveyance. W. Va. Code § 61-7-11A.

Hi American Pit Bull and welcome to CarryConcealed! http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd198/St-Michael/wave.gif

Since the info you quoted came from a booklet prepared by the WV Atty General, Darrell McGrew, I think it's probably valid, but I've not yet got a law citation to give you to back that up. Let me look a bit and see what I can find. The passage you quoted, however, is on page 4 of THIS BOOKLET (http://www.wvago.gov/pdf/BookletWVFirearmLaws.pdf). (the caps are a link)

Hope this helps.

Blessings,

Maybe you should call the West Virginia Attorney Generals office and ask them to give you the statute number that says carry is illegal in a police station.

The closest thing I was able to find in a quick search was the prohibition on carry in buildings housing courts of law or the family law master. I know that there are police stations that house a court with a magistrate in some places; I do not know if this applies to WV or if it does, to all of WV or not.

Since Atty. Gen. McGrew published it, I would suggest asking his office for the citation.

Good luck!
