Didn't post this 'till now to avoid PWPO (posting while p*ssed off - can lead to saying things you don't really mean). We got a call from the Maine State Police last Friday telling us that our place had been broken into. This is our summer place in a remote area. Electricity is via generator & water is via a well & holding tank w/ pump to power the fawcets.
Nervy little bast*rds were looking for firearms mostly, accoring to the cop. They seem to have made more than one trip, and felt they had time, as it was a summer place. They got a chainsaw, LCD TV, and a party tent as the major items. Many smaller things - tools, propane etc. In a town of about 1500 people, how do they plan on using/selling a 20' X 20' party tent? That sure is a white elephant. (And just to make sure the charges stick, there were 2 gold bars and a bag of flawless diamonds in the closet . )
Good news - 1) I NEVER leave firearms at a place I will not be for any amount of time, NEVER - safe or no safe.
2) Neighbors, Don't leave home without 'em. No alarm systems are worth a hoot out there, but as remote as it is, some folks who own cottages on the lake down the street knew that a beat up little blue car didn't belong in the driveway to an obviously pricey peice of property. They had been hit too, losing firearms. Word has it the BG's were followed up the private road by some ATV's, but not sure. One thing I do know: They left in a hurry. Big ruts in the driveway. Neighbors got a good look, but no license plate.
The point - My wife got that "violated" feeling, I got R*E*A*L*L*Y P**S*S*E*D O*F*F, but we both slept a lot better knowing that if they came back for more, we'd surrounded ourselves with firepower like little girls with stuffed animals. "You put Mr. Mossberg next to you & I'll have Mr. Bigscope stand here. Now Big Momma Magnum is under your pillow and Brother Kimber is on my nightstand. Glockie is under the sink...."
Yeah, we carry a lot with us so we can practice up there & work the dogs.
How did YOUR weekend go???
