According to the Chicago Tribune, Obama supports federal legislation to ban the Right to Carry for everyone except police officers, could he get this done?

I don't know if he could get it done, but I imagine he would like to. I was reading an article in the June NRA First Freedom magazine that said over the years he has voiced support for, or voted to enact laws to: ban all handguns, ban the sale or transfer of all semi-automatic firearms, ban the Right-to-Carry in every state, nationwide, ban firearms in the home, even for self protection. The article also stated that "While Obamas disdain for Second Amendment freedom apprears limitless, his attitude toward armed, violent criminals has been one of benign nelect, at best.
In 1999, on a vote in the Illinois senate on whether to try teenage gangbangers as adults, when they fire a gun on or near school grounds, Obama voted "present" - the functional equivalent of "NO"!
In 2001, when Illinois lawmakers tried to control rampant gang vilence by making gang members eligible for the death penalty when they commit murder to help their gang, Obama voted against the measure.
You are right, according to Obama's own hometown newspaper, the Chicago Tribune, Obama supports federal legislation to ban the Right to Carry for everyone but police officers! I believe this is in an article by John Chase, Keyes, Obama are Far Apart on Guns in 9/15/04 Chicago Tribune. (Alan Keyes was running against Obama for U.S. Senate seat)
Another article by David Mendall, in Chicago Tribune 4/27/04 quotes Obama as saying "I mean, I am consistantly on record and will contiune to be on record as opposing concealed carry"
When Illinois lawmakers introduced a bill that would exonerate citizens for violating local gun bans if they used a gun to defend themselves in their homes, Obama voted "NO"! That bill did pass even with the opposition of Obama and other anti-self defense legislators, the vote was 41-16.
If Obama gets the democrat party's nomination, and it looks like he will, every CCW license holder should realize what the results of a vote for him may be. You may be like those living in the "right denied" states of Illinois and Wisconsin. I am sure if this doesn't come about a lot of other bad gun legislation would be introduced.

Maybe in the presidential election I'll vote "present", does that mean "no" to everybody?
I really hate that our lawmakers even have the right to vote present or to be absent for a vote. Last I checked voting for or against stuff was the reason for having a senate and house of representatives. When was the last time a private citizen walked into a voting booth and said "I'm here"? Why can the people who are elected to represent the opinions of the people have no opinion? I think I need to find a new country to live in, only all the rest I can think of are worse.
I almost think that a pseudo-dictator president needs to win this election. Maybe that's what it will take to make all the retards (no offense to the mentally challenged, this word is reserved for a lower class) in this country looking for handouts and a warm fuzzy government security blanket WAKE THE HELL UP!!! It's time we had a remider of what our freedom is, what it can, does, and will cost to keep.

Obama proposed to make it a felony for a gun owner whose fiearm was stolen from his residence chich causes harm to another person if that weapons was not securely stored in the home. Does that mean if someone defended themselves with a firearm not locked up in a safe and a burglar was shot he could be charged with a felony. Judging by Obamas vote on the bill to exempt people breaking firearms ordinances from an exemption for self defense, I'd say yes.
He also favors one gun a month, increasing fees for FFL dealers, no gun dealers within 5 miles of a school or park, no FFL dealer sales from homes. He also wantws to increase the federal taxes by 500% on the sale of firearms, and ammmunition -- weapons he says are most commonly used in firearm deaths.

Many gun owners are passive when it comes to working behind the scene for legislative improvements. We have quite a few things we could get behind - but we have to DO not just 'talk the talk'. Obama appears to be poised for victory and it seems to many that it's his election to lose.
There are several fronts that we need to be activists on: Castle Doctrine, National Reciprocity, Defeating the "NEW" Assault Weapons Ban before it gets started, etc.
My gut instinct is that the Supreme Court will rule favorably for our side in the DC Ban case and reaffirm an Individual Right to Keep & Bear Arms. But if we sit on our butts and the other negative legislation gets in we should take a long look in the mirror before pointing fingers.

One source says there are 80,000,000 gun owners in the US. The NRA has about 4 million members. What does that tell you about most of our fellow gun owners?
The duck hunters who only own shotguns aren't concerned because nobody wants to confiscate their over-under bird guns.
Deer hunters aren't concerned about assault weapons bans, because they only use bolt guns for the most part, and have no desire to own "machine guns."
Many hunters own their guns for that purpose alone, and because they don't own pistols or "assault weapons," are not concerned with losing any of their freedoms.
Too many hunters and politicians believe the 2nd Amendment is about hunting rights.
To those gun owners who don't want to get involved, we who are involved are damned tired of pulling your weight for your gun rights. How about standing for your own rights for a change? Join the NRA, or if you don't like them, join GOA, but for God's sake, join something!
Ask the Brits or the Australians how their gun rights were taken from them. You will learn they were one step at a time, not all at once. If it shoots, they don't want you to have one.

The duck and deer hunters, at least in Illinois, should have been shaken from their indifference to handgun ban, assault weapon ban and magazine capacity limit legislation. Those who said they will never take my duck gun or deer gun hopefully heard talk about legislation to outlaw pump shotguns after one was used in a Chicago killing. No this didn't go through nor did any gun ban or magazine ban legislation.
