Anyone heard of Krav Maga? It's a form of real-world self-defence used by Israeli defence forces, and now in use by several LE agencies in the US. (well, that's how they describe it, anyway)
What are your opinions of it?
How would you utilize that training while carrying?
A friend of mine swears by it. He'd rather carry and use Krav as his non-lethal option than trust pepper spray or a Tazer.
I just wanted to bounce it off this group and see what your opinions were, and how you might apply this training in conjunction with CC.

No first hand experience with Krav Maga, sorry, just Shotokan Karate.
I am told Krav is most effective and would love to give it a try.

I’ve practiced a little Krav Maga, however, I’ll state upfront that I’ve not received training from a live instructor (just videos). While I’m not proficient at all, the training gave me a level of situational awareness which I lacked before. Big plus! :)
I was introduced to Krav Maga a couple years ago. Certainly, the fact that it was designed by Israelis during WWII and the following wars in Israel was a good recommendation. Another factor that was a big plus to us, was it’s simplicity. They designed it with the idea that civilians would be able to learn it quickly and maintain it without large amounts of practice. They also wanted something, which could be easily learned by the young or infirm, as well as the fit. (I train with my whole family.) Along those lines it’s defensive movements utilize our instinctive responses when threatened. I also really liked the two rules of training. 1. There are no rules. 2. Don’t hurt your training partner or yourself. Compared to most martial arts, that just sounds practical! :) Overall, I think it is a very beneficial skill.

Actually, I think Krav Maga will be very easy to mix with CC. (My permit is still processing.) They teach weapon improvisation. CC is simply an addition to the KM skills, albeit, usable at a safer distance. Even when carrying there are advantages to KM. If I’m surprised at arm distance (very bad), I can deflect or remove myself from the path of an attack or hold. After I’m out of the instantaneous danger, I can pull my gun. That gives me the option to shoot or counter attack to neutralize the threat. Obviously, the fact that I can keep and bear my two arms everywhere is significant as well ;) . I think both CC and KM complement each other nicely.
All in all, I’ll probably put the same amount of time into KM as I will into shooting. It is a good fitness program ;) . I also want to learn some of their hold breaks, and disarming techniques. I have a lot to learn in KM and CC. They both have their place. God willing, I’ll never need either (but practice is sure fun :D).
God bless.
