OUTSTANDING! I wonder how this will affect Wisconsin, Illinois, and the PRK?

Great news indeed, but the fight is not over. This ruling, as it was designed, is just the first step. Now that we have this ruling that the 2nd Amendment is an individual right, we can now go forward with the fight to define "reasonable" restrictions.
Celebrate, by all means, but don't get complacent. The anti gunners are still with us, and they are very well funded and motivated.
Join in the fight. Join the NRA

And don't forget, 4 out of 9 justices can't read enough to understand the terms "the People" or "shall not be infringed"
It is not a victory, it is a win and it is a start.
It won't be a victory until they outlaw licenses (because if licenses are outlawed, then only outlaws will have them  ) and get rid of the NFA of '34, GCA of '68 and GHW Bush's machine gun ban of '87 - hey, why limit your dreams?

Hooray for our side!!! I am greatly relieved. Now, I think there is a chance my grandchildren can live in a free country. I was fully prepared for the decision to go 5 to 4 the other way. Then, I was uncertain what I was going to do. What with Canada, the UK, and Australia banning guns, I was really worried about this case. I knew that I wasn't going to surrender my guns nice and peaceable like. But, I hated thinking about what that meant in real terms. Now, thank God, I won't have to face that decision just yet. FYI, I seriously believe that if the decision had gone the other way, and the liberals take the White House and Congress in the November election, there would have been government agents at my front door demanding the surrender of my guns within 18 months. Folks, I think we dodged the bullet for the time being. But, we have to keep working together to protect our rights.
I'm reading the decision. It's lengthy.

The antis will claim a victory of sorts out of this. They will cite Stevens and Breyer ad nauseum.
The samurai had a saying: In victory, tighten your helmet strings.
I think we can get ready to be nibbled to death by ducks. They're gonna try at least.

The Illinois State Rifle Association in light of the U.S. Supreme Court ruling affirming the second amendment right to keep and bear arms filed a lawsuit against the city of Chicago, Illinois this morning.
It couldn't happen to a more deserving place.
Coming up on July 11, in Chicago , at the James R. Thompson Center 100 W. Randolph St. is a Second Amendment Freedom Rally. It is from 11 am to 1 pm and Dr. Suzanna Hupp will be the featured speaker.

Good luck, Illinois. It's about time you got some!
We as gun owners also need to start contacting the ACLU to get them to reverse their stand on the 2A as being a collective right, since the Supreme Court has declared it and individual right.
Seriously - don't roll your eyes when you hear ACLU. Sure they support a lot of whack job lawsuits that I don't agree with, but they have the money and the experience in getting things done. If we can get them on our side, and start advocating for our rights, we'll have a powerful ally (not as powerful as the Force, but still pretty good).

OK, I've finished reading the opinion. Here is my take on it:
1. The 2nd Amendment is affirmed as an individual, not a collective right. This is repeated so definitely that I see no room for any future court to change that without a total reversal of the case. That is very unlikely to happen. I think this case has put the "militia" issue to bed for good.
2. The actual holding of the Heller court only recognizes the right to keep and bear fully operable arms in the home. The court specifically recognizes that many issues are left unresolved, to be determined by future courts in other cases. This, of course, is where the danger now lies. However, I can't think of any constitutional right that stops at your front door as you leave your house. Can you?
3. The Heller decision is full of dicta that suggests that the 2nd Amendment right extends beyond the home, and that is encouraging. But, dicta is not controlling precedent that can be depended upon in future cases.
There's a lot more in there, but for me, those are the top 3 items.

Thanks for reading through the legalese and getting to the bottom line, George. We need to remain diligent, because there will always be freedom haters lurking around every corner. I'm glad there are professionals like you to promote our cause. The left would have us believe that the only people who promote gun ownership are a bunch of country hicks. You, sir, are no country hick.
