If you haven't gone to the Illinois forum you may not know that there was a Second Amendment Rally in Chicago on July 11, or was there.

Although there were a number of media people there at the Rally neither the Chicago Tribune or Chicago Sun reported on it. Also channel 9 TV ignored it. Conservative estimates of the number there were 500 to 600. One media person said 200 which is a rediculous under estimeate as 150 chairs were set up and many more people were standing than sitting. Someone said they handed out 1500 pieces of literature.

I guess the media was there to report if a fight broke out or police found someone carrying a handgun and arrested them, newsworthy stuff like that.

You can find out more about it by going to www.newsbusters.org and doing a search on Pro-2nd amendment rally blogs tom blumer. Also you can go to www.crimefilenews.com/2008/07/chicagos-first-ever-rally-demanding.html#links I found "A Chicago Police Woman's Story there interesting. Also www.liberator.net/articles/liberatormark/rally2008.html

Any suggestions on how to get media coverage next year? We had some great speakers including Suzzana Gratia-Hupp former Texas rep whose parents were killed at the Luby Cafeterria. Too bad most Chicago folks won't hear her speach or even know she was there.

I guess the Tribune and Sun couldn't have readers seeing those signs saying "Concealed Carry Now" and showing pictures of scary guns.

An interesting note yesterday the Chicago editor in chief resigned and the news staff will by pared by 60. Maybe if they really reported on the news even if it didn't fit their anti-gun agenda they'd have more readers.

Now, that's what I call really good news! I wish some gun friendly organization would buy one of these big city newspapers and start printing the truth about guns and self defense issues. I bet their subscriptions would soar. I think even the liberal city dwellers are tired of feeling helpless and scared.

Well at least some Chicago folks picked up leaflets at the rally entitled "48 States Are Not Wrong!"

It tells how 48 states recognize the right of law-abiding citizens to carry firearms for personal and family protection. It has a U.S. map with the 2 "odd ball states" Illinois and Wisconsin in black listed as criminal friendly states and the rest of the states listed as freedom friendly states!

It also mentions Illinoisans can get non-resident carry permits from places like Utah, Florida and Pennsylvania.

It gives a website for people to contact their local representatives and I hope these Chicago folks do and then vote them out if they won't support carry legislation.

Awwwww! Those poor journalists out of a job. My heart bleeds for them. If they starve I hope they do it downwind from me.

Are you suprised it wasn't covered?
Junglebob said it right; they were only there incase some "gun and religion clinging rednecks" got out of hand.

I always wondered what happened to Savethe2nd.org, they were planning on a nationwide rally in every state capitol. It never really caught on tho...too bad, that would have been cool.

I don't know about that group but folks from Illinoiscarry.com and the Illinois State Rifle Association held Gun Owners Lobby Day in our state capital this spring. About 2500 people attended, 1000 more than last year. We lobbied representatives and senators for concealed carry.
