Can anybody tell me why NV doesn't recognize an AZ CCW permit? AZ recognizes a NV CCW permit. Currently, I must change from CC to OC when I cross the state border.

Hi Gary, and welcome to CarryConcealed!
NV is exceptionally restrictive on which states they choose to recognize, unlike AZ or several others, including the state where I make my home, IN.
The easiest way for you to be able to lawfully carry (concealed, anyway) in NV, and likely the one over which you have the most control, is to get your non-resident Utah CCW permit. I took the class for mine yesterday and need to go get a passport-quality photo and get fingerprinted so I can send off for it. With my IN LTC and the UT, I'll be able to lawfully carry concealed in 33 states. Costwise, it's not a bad deal, either. The class is whatever the instructor wants to charge, but the permit itself is $65.25, good for five years, and renews for $10.
Hope that helps!
Blessings,
B

This post made me curious. So, I'm tying to find out exactly why Nevada rejected various States for reciprocity. I'll post the results if I get any.

Thanx for the feedback! The pistol range that I took my AZ CCW class offers a 4 hr combined Utah & Florida non-resident CCW application class for $85 plus the cost to apply, which I'm considering. FL gets me NV. UT gets me both NV and WA. UT is the more stricter of the two.
It's really dumb that NV doesn't recognize AZ CCW permit yet an AZ CCW permit holder can get a UT or FL non-res CCW permit that NV recognizes! :?
I contacted a pro-gun AZ state senator to look into why NV won't accept AZ CCW. She replied that there's nothing she could do since it's up to NV.

Could you send me the website for the UT non-resident CCW application? I was referred to the UT AG website, which didn't have the application.

From www.leg.state.nv.us/NRS/NRS-202.html#NRS202Sec3653
NRS 202.3688 Circumstances in which holder of permit issued by another state may carry concealed firearm in this State; holder of permit issued by another state subject to same restrictions and requirements as holder of permit issued in this State.
1. Except as otherwise provided in subsection 2, a person who possesses a permit to carry a concealed firearm that was issued by a state included in the list prepared pursuant to NRS 202.3689 may carry a concealed firearm in this State in accordance with the requirements set forth in NRS 202.3653 to 202.369, inclusive.
2. A person who possesses a permit to carry a concealed firearm that was issued by a state included in the list prepared pursuant to NRS 202.3689 may not carry a concealed firearm in this State if the person:
(a) Becomes a resident of this State; and
(b) Has not been issued a permit from the sheriff of the county in which he resides within 60 days after becoming a resident of this State.
3. A person who carries a concealed firearm pursuant to this section is subject to the same legal restrictions and requirements imposed upon a person who has been issued a permit by a sheriff in this State.
(Added to NRS by 2007, 3150)
NRS 202.3689 Department to prepare list of states that meet certain requirements concerning permits; Department to provide copy of list to law enforcement agencies in this State; Department to make list available to public.
1. On or before July 1 of each year, the Department shall:
(a) Examine the requirements for the issuance of a permit to carry a concealed firearm in each state and determine whether the requirements of each state are substantially similar to or more stringent than the requirements set forth in NRS 202.3653 to 202.369, inclusive.
(b) Determine whether each state has an electronic database which identifies each individual who possesses a valid permit to carry a concealed firearm issued by that state and which a law enforcement officer in this State may access at all times through a national law enforcement telecommunications system.
(c) Prepare a list of states that meet the requirements of paragraphs (a) and (b). A state must not be included in the list unless the Nevada Sheriffs’ and Chiefs’ Association agrees with the Department that the state should be included in the list.
(d) Provide a copy of the list prepared pursuant to paragraph (c) to each law enforcement agency in this State.
2. The Department shall, upon request, make the list prepared pursuant to subsection 1 available to the public.
(Added to NRS by 2007, 3150)
Although some states' requirements are less stringent, I suspect the "electronic database/accessibility" issue is the primary roadblock to honoring several states' permits.

p19768, Arizona is one of those great states that recognizes every other states carry permit/license, as does Indiana and Kentucky. Unfortunately Nevada does not recognize every other state. Here in Illinois the Winnebago County board has a resolution going before their board to issue carry permits for their county in this "right denied" state, they are considering the recognition of all other permits. This would be a good first step to getting concealed carry statewide as I could see the legislature not allowing any other states permit to be recognized or only those with the most stringent training requirement.
Is concealed carry coming to Illinois soon, no I don't expect so. Maybe when there is a change in Governors and some legislators.

AZ DPS maintains a database of CCW permit holders. Perhaps they use Mac and NV uses Windows
"On or before July 1 of each year, the Department shall:..."
I'll be watching to see if the NV legislature adds any more states to their list of recogniced CCW permits!

It would be nice if a bill like Senator Vitter has put forth would pass.

Hmm... Perhaps you should write or call the NSCA or NDPS and inquire.

I must respectfully disagree. As nice as the results might be for most of us, we must always remember that what Congress gives, Congress may take away. Do we really want the federal government to take over the business of CCW? If we even admit they have a right to do that (with regard to states' rights), then we are opening up a Pandora's Box we are sure to ultimately regret.
And just as an aside, if you want to take at luck at how the Senate, for example, wastes tax-payer time and money-- go here for a look at Vitter's record of "national service"...

Sandhiller, you raise a good point! I am consistently for less gov't but if each state continues to legislate their our gun control laws, perhaps a federal mandate is needed? I'd like to hear other opinions on this point.

The purpose of the Second Amendment was to protect us from the federal government. Should we now give it what the Founding Fathers refused to?

While I like the potential convenience of a nationwide common standard, the current situation requires the anti-gunners to lobby each state to change their gun laws. This takes great effort and not a small amount of money.
If concealed carry law was administered by the federal government, all that effort and money could be applied at one focal point instead of fifty smaller focal points. I think it's possible that a federal permit/law, in one fell swoop, could be revoked.
Oddly, we may be more powerful divided than united in this situation

I didn't say it had to be Senator Vitter's bill, I said like his bill, and I highly doubt that such a bill will be anytime soon since most never get much beyond being introduced. And there's pro and cons for anything the goverment does.

I have not yet read Vitter's bill, however I would like to see the Congress enforce upon the states the "Full Faith and Credit" clause of the Constitution. This is not making new law as none is needed.
...
Article. IV.
Section. 1.
Full Faith and Credit shall be given in each State to the public Acts, Records, and judicial Proceedings of every other State. And the Congress may by general Laws prescribe the Manner in which such Acts, Records and Proceedings shall be proved, and the Effect thereof.
Section. 2.
The Citizens of each State shall be entitled to all Privileges and Immunities of Citizens in the several States.
...
As the state-issued CCW/LTC/whatever is a public Act, this would seem to follow logically, would it not?
Blessings,
B

B, The wording certainly indicates exactly that! I'm continually amazed how states or local gov't come up with laws that disregard this basic point. Consider the excessive gun-control laws in states like CA, MA, NY, etc.
