This is your chance to get $100 for any old non-working junk firearm you have around. The city of Chicago will give you a $100 gift card each for any firearm working or not. This is your chance to get rid of non-working junk and replace them with something new at Chicago's expense. There are something like 20 churches that will be buying points, for more information go to www.cbs2chicago.com/local and put July 26 gun turn in into the search box. You need not be a Chicago resident and they say no questions asked. They do ask that you not take loaded firearms, duh! They even buy BB guns and replica guns for $10 each.

One fellow brought a bunch maybe 2 dozen and got enough gift cards to fund a youth firearm training program for Champaign County Rifle Association, as I recall.

Do be aware Illinois is a "right denied" state, don't want anyone getting arrested for concealed carry.

The helpful website CBS2Chicago also has a map of Summer Shootings in Chicago, just in case you want to know what areas you want to avoid! It tells you where people were shot and where people were killed.

Sure, scrap metal prices have recently gone up dramatically, but I think Chicago's investment is still very speculative.

So, this is how they spend tax dollars when their economy is sinking like a rock. :? I never did like welfare at taxpayer expense, and I still don't, but I suppose they'll explain the investment as an economic stimulant...

FYI, I'm J/K. ;) But I did get a chuckle from your sense of humor, Jungle Bob. While it's public opinion, not economic stupidity, which will win or lose this battle, it is nice that gun owners can get some of their tax dollars back.

I don't know if Chicago tax dollars are part of the funding for the gun turn in. I understand King Richard was asking businesses to contribute, maybe that's protection money to make sure the cops show up if you call 911 from your business.

One guy on the Illinoiscarry.com forum is talking about duct taping a rifle together and bringing it for the "turn in". If I had enough junk guns to make the trip worthwhile I'd go, but it's over 300 miles, that's too close most of the time.

I originally posted this under "Illinois" State listing,
Thanks , jlc

If Chicago would concetrate on turning in their JUNK politians the State of Illinois would be better off.
Cleveland tried the same thing and guess what, the killings by the bad guys kept on to this day unfortunately..
What these cities need is to make the bad guys afraid to go out with a weapon by doing a massive/regular sweep of the crime areas and screw the ACLU and NAACP and anyone else that starts crying about civil rights.
The bad guys are taking away our rights to go where we want without fear of them.

To clarify: "J/K" is not my user name on another forum. I meant to say that "For your information, I was just kidding. ;)" To be specific, I was just kidding with my economic analysis of the Chicago buy back. Yes, I do know their real motivation.

 My use of those abbreviations was certainly confusing. Sorry about that.

JungleBob, I do hope they aren't spending tax dollars on this buy back program. Certainly it will not reduce gun violence at all. Sadly, as we know, that is not their motivation.

If they really wanted to help people without giving away guns, they could at least give away something like gun locks or safety training... Not likely.

Or... you know... go after the real criminals maybe?

Yeah, I know, that's crazy talk. Besides, it might actually work, and we can't have THAT!

Blessings,

I agree. While it would be excellent for businesses to donate for gun safety training and gun locks, the government should not be giving away either. Instead they should do their job!

I don't have a problem with gov't giving away locks. Our local sheriff has cases of the bloody things that were donated specifically to be given away. No tax dollars spent. If I'm paying for them, though, THAT, I have a problem with.

Blessings,
B

The anti-gun biased Chicago tribune reported that there were 6800 "illegal" guns turned in at the "gun turn-in". I guess they are assuming every one was turned in by a gang banger felon. One guy from the Illinoiscarry forum participated and said that one guy had 20 firearms he turned in each for a $100 gift card. He said almost all the guns looked like junk. Someone said that they showed a sawed off shotgun with an 8" barrel as an example of guns the guns turned in, he thought it was the same one they showed last time.

One thing I have noticed over the years: gun folk generally tell the truth. Sure, not always, there are definitely some liars among us. But for the most part we tell the truth about armed encounters between legally armed citizens and BGs, and about all the other aspects of guns in America.

Antis, on the other hand, will lie at the drop of a hat. Deep in their twisted psyches they are convinced that ANY means of winning the argument is kosher as long as their Good Side comes out on top.

Mostly, I think, that comes about because TRUTH is on our side and they don't have much to work with but their obsession.
