In this day and age we tend to forget that shooting is alive and well on millions of acres of public land.

The National Forest and Bureau of Land Mgmt. Land is open to shooting throughout the west and still in some parts of the east. Probably state land have areas also.
There are rules so please contact the local Forest or District.

Federal law states that you cannot shoot across a body of water, near any occupied area such as a campground or facility adjacent to or across roads. You cannot shoot at living things like trees and bushes.

Lack of common sense will lead to local closures and restriction. Garbage from shooters, including empty brass, beer cans old cars and so on has caused many to be closed to shooters. So pick up your brass, and left over targets and anyone elses you come across.

Also it is not a good idea to go target shooting during a hunting season. Be careful, if you stumble on a dope garden or you smell weird smells in an area leave don't go looking around.

Public land can be an excellent place to shoot, as long as you know and follow the rules.

Do you know of any website where one may find public land to shoot on?

nodaywithout, Find out what public land is in your area, state, federal
and contact them directly. Even tribal land many times has areas open to hunt and shoot. There isn't a bunch of National Forest near you but ask around. Your Fish and Game Dept would be a good start.

Most National Park Service administered land is off limits to firearms including concealed carry.

Also I did not get back to you on the NRA instructor question. Go to the NRA website, training and you will get an overview. You will need to take a basic NRA pistol course first, the NRA instructor course and then the NRA pistol, rifle, or shotgun instructor course. It takes about 3 weekends and around $350. You are then qualified to teach the basic pistol course and safety inside the home course. You can make your $350 back pretty quick.

NRA just came out with a new course for concealed carry called Personal Protection Outside the Home. It is 16hours and is an extensive concealed carry course. Requires your carry firearm, about 350 rds of ammo, flashlight and knee pads since you shoot from low light conditions barriers kneeling and prone.
This may be the best thing they have done.

Be careful, if you stumble on a dope garden . . .

I have heard there have been cases where the dopers cut the rattlers off the rattlesnakes and tie the snakes to the base of the marajuana plant. They strike before anyone knows they are there.

Never saw the rattlesnake trap but they do have a great imagination for booby traps. It wasn't so bad till the Russian mafia ran out the Mex cartel, since then it can be ruthless.

We just had a marijuana grow raided on nearby BLM land. It was 10,000 plants. The farmers had planted about 100 Chinese made anti personnel land mines. They also had quite an arsenal of full auto weapons, grenades and a Chinese made RPG. The farmers are known to be Mexican Nationals, but all escaped. They have found the operation was financed by a drug cartel in Matamoros Mexico.

Watch out. This type is serious. Those land mines will blow your legs off below the knees and put an end to sex life. Oregon gets about 30 grows per year over 1000 plants. A thousand plants normally worth about $2.5 Million. So this on worth about $25 Million. The original report was 1000 plants but they had seriously underestimated.
