I’m wondering what the laws are about bringing a handgun into a location posted as a gun free zone? I know that in some States, if I bring a gun onto private property posted as a gun free zone, they must ask me to leave the property. I have not broken any laws until, they ask me to leave and I do not comply. I've also read that in some States it is legal to drive through a school zone while carrying a gun. I'm trying to find out what the law is here in CT for both posted gun free zones, and school zones.

I agree with George’s post.
This whole gun free zone issue frosts me. I hate organized stupidity, and when it's forced on me by law I get very testy. When will people with good sense declare that they've had enough, and aren't going to take it any more?

Leaving your gun in your car is only inviting disaster. At least around here it is. We have a huge car theft and auto burglary problem in Las Vegas. What sense does it make to require that a throughly vetted concealed permit holder abandon his gun and leave it in a car? Would a responsible gun owner do such a thing? If we just got a couple thousand like minded gun owners together in every community, and staged sit ins and ran picket lines, we would probably get somewhere.

I don't know about CT, but I think in most states if you carry a CW onto property that is properly posted for NO concealed carry you can lose your permit or worse.

This depends on the state laws. If the signs have force of law, yes, you are correct, this is possible. I don't know CT law. I do know that they can name the business, "Uncle Bob's Totally Gun-Free Emporium", have every wall, every item, every door, window, etc. covered with ghostbuster signs and I can walk in armed and shop until I'm asked to leave. They can ask me to leave because I'm carrying, because someone thinks I'm carrying, or because they don't like the color of my hair. They cannot lawfully require me to leave on grounds of race, creed, color, religion, or nat'l origin.
In TX, I know that if the sign posted is not specifically in compliance with the 30.06 statute, it is totally meaningless.

Other places can have a tiny sign attached to the register and that might be sufficient-it's all a state law issue.

Thanks Sandhiller and Bill of Rights. I will look into this further, and post my findings. :)

God bless.
