A criminal entered a TN Unitarian Universalist church today with a shotgun and injured or killed several people. He was captured alive by parishoners and held pending police arrival.

Question: Does TN law prohibit carry in houses of worship?

Please give a reference for your answer. I have a feeling it will be needed when addressing the antis.

Blessings,
B

Well, I searched all through the very confusing and poorly designed TN state site. Many links lead you right back to the page you started on without answering your question. Major frustration.

It would APPEAR, however, that there is no rule against CCW in churches, based on various semi-oblique references to other venues that ARE proscribed.

But, as an aside, while searching I stumbled on this page of comments about the church shooting. It comes out of Chicago so prepare yourself for a dose of supreme metro-lib stupidity. Good to know about, though, 'cuz these dudes are the enemy we struggle against.

OK, here's a post from the TGOA that indicates that churches are not off limits unless they choose to be individually.

I'd be willing to bet Tennessee has laws against planning a murder.
Against preparing to execute a murder.
Against possessing a weapon with intent to commit murder.
Attempting to murder.
Attempting to cause grievous bodily harm.
Inducing panic.
Yep. There are laws against these and it sure as Perdition itself did not stop this lunatick from committing his murderous act.
My nearest gun friendly church in Ohio is near to 25 miles from here. A 50 mile round trip every Sunday is a bit much. I'd like to find one closer that won't object to an armed congregation.

I asked the question on another BB also and the answer I got was that it's "not in the demographic". Considering it's a Unitarian Universalist church, I had to agree. Be that as it may, Sky Pilot, of course you're correct that the criminal's behavior was, well, criminal. What I was trying to determine is if there were laws that would have made effective self-defense equally criminal. Fortunately, this scumbag was captured alive, so maybe we can pick his brain and find out whether he chose that location due to "fish in a barrel" syndrome or if his ire was specific against one or more people there. On reflection, it might have been both.
