I am a Brit, recently retired from 24 years in the British Army, and now living in Florida. We moved here as my wife is from the area and she has spent the last 9 years following me around Europe.
I'm very used to guns and though "only" a green card holder, I've got my Concealed permit...just have to buy a gun...

Have fun getting your gun, and we look forward to your posts. We have been trying to include world gun issues as well as things in the states. If you have any information from England, we would love to hear.
Welcome! :)
Welcome, cranners99,
Please feel free to give us your perspective on our state of affairs.
Let us know what you decide to carry.

Hi cranners99, and welcome! :D
I participate in a mostly British brass band forum. I posted there about this forum, and I'm getting some pretty interesting responses. Check out this link: http://www.brass-forum.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1188924063
Let me know what you think.
It's interesting that you have your CCW before buying your gun. Did you use a rental gun to qualify, or does Florida issue without training and a range test?
I look forward to reading your comments on the forum!

The Gun store/Range I used did a complete package for $60. That included the classroom session (laws, guns safety ect), a range session (3 hits out of 5 from 15 feet) with the shops G19 or 357 wheelie, help with the paperwork and notary, photo and fingerprints (a clerk from the sheriff's office brings a printing kit.
All I had to do then was copy my DL, GC and some bank statements/utility bills to show that I'd been resident in FL for over 90 days.
My FinL did the same course, he has a S&W 686 in the house, but is thinking of swapping it out for something that he feels more suited to carrying.
