I posted this same question on another gun forum and received little response and what I did was less than helpfull or respectfull. So I'm hopeing someone here can shed some light my way.

I'm military stationed in Norfolk, VA. I've had a CHP for about 9 months. However I OC 99% of the time. My question is this.......

I'm a WA resident. I have a VA resident CHP being military stationed here. Being that I maintain my drivers license and also vote as a Washington resident can I apply for a CHP in WA as a resident or would I have to apply as a Non-Res? But furthermore I'm pending a transfer (waiting for the hard copy of orders) to Tinker AFB in Oklahoma City, OK. Oklahoma recognizes VA CHP so I'm good there. Now Once I get to OK and if I applied for an OK CHP so I have access to other states would my VA permit become void as I'm no longer a resident? Or can I petition it to be transfered to non-res status?

I guess what I'm asking is is it even possible to hold a resident permit for multiple states? I know that my military status throws a wrench in it when it comes to residency status and such. But also when someone moves to another state how does that effect a permit.

First off, :welcome: to CarryConcealed!

As to your questions, these will be determined by state laws. My suggestion for you is that you should look into getting your Utah CFP, as it is recognized in all the states you named.

I do not have time to check right now, but if you call the issuing authority in each state, I'm sure they can tell you what is and is not regarding their CCW/CFP/whatever and OC as well. Also consider that opencarry.org has maps and such specific to each state. I'm sure this is redundant, but I'll say it anyway, make sure you check the laws and know where you can and cannot carry wherever you happen to live (or be stationed).

Sorry I can't be of more help, but I hope this gets you started. Again, welcome, and as always,

Blessings,
B

I believe to get a Washington Carry Permit you must apply in person. The Utah permit might be a good choice for you, and there are instructors outside Utah that put on courses.(Even in "right denied" Illinois) Make sure that Washington recognizes it for their residents and don't require a Washington permit if you go back home and carry on it.
