A handicapped man from Chicago was arrested and charged with unlawful use of a weapon. Chris Morley, a long-time and well-liked supporter of gun rights in Illinois, has been carrying his unloaded pistol for nearly a decade - ever since a law was passed to allow it.

Suffering from cerebral palsy and depending on a cane to walk, Chris Morley has been the target of would-be muggers numerous times. On these three or four occasions, merely reaching for his unloaded firearm was enough to scare the attackers away and possibly save his life.

Morley was not feeling well at work on Monday, however, and a coworker helped him to an empty room to rest and feel better. As a matter of policy, paramedics were called. But not only did the paramedics arrive, but police in full tactical gear arrived too!

Morley's personal belongings had been searched without warrant or probable cause and his unloaded pistol in his Maxpediton case had been exposed. Instead of going home as he planned after falling ill, Morley was on his way to county lockup! He was handcuffed to a wall for a few hours, processed, photographed, fingerprinted, stripped of clothes and belongings including his cane and glasses. Morley could not walk or see.

He has lost his job as the result of the arrest. He will most likely win his case, as others have for similar arrests. If you would like to help with his legal defense you can go to the Champaign County Rife Association website at www.GunsSaveLife.com download the membership application, which also has a place for donations to their Legal Defense Lund. Let them know you'd like to help Morley. You can read more about Morley at www.icarry.org.

Interestingly Morley mentioned once that there was an unarmed security person a his work place that knew he transported a handgun, along with a loaded magazine. She once said something like "If anyone ever comes in here shooting, I'm going to your office."

I have an edit to my post. Chris Morley just posted something on the www.Illinoiscarry.com/forum If you want to read the post its under the Illinois Concealed Carry Forum Topic CK Morley arrested for fanny packing He suggests people can contribute to his defense by sending a check made out to his attorney Walter Maksym to Gun Owners Fellowship 605 Fulton Av. Rockford, Il 61103 You can also use paypal and send to fellowship@icarry.org and put in that it is for Chis Morley defense.

BTW Walter Maksym is an excellent attorney and has won several cases of this type. One that comes to mind is of Roderick Pritchett a similar arrest in Chicago.

An update about Chris Morley. The Illinois State Police arrived at his house and confiscated all his firearms. This was because of a "written threat to co-workers" found in his desk. Chicago police came along to investigate the "threat". Chris said he had a note to himself in his desk reading D-day 9/23 to remind himself that on this day his workload doubles in anticipation of the holidays.
