View Full Version : Carry a Sig cocked?

A friend of mine is preparing to purchase CCW. While he really likes the Sig 229, he prefers SA over DA/SA.
He's wondering if carrying a cocked DA/SA Sig with a round chambered would be as safe as carrying a M&P or a Glock with a round chambered. I'm pretty sure all three guns have both drop and firing pin safeties. Since he is getting a high quality holster, he isn't concerned with the light trigger pull, which is really pretty similar for these three guns (4.4, 6.5 and 5.5 lbs. respectively).
If you would carry a M&P with a round chambered, would you feel safe carrying a cocked Sig with a round chambered? If not, can you explain why?
Thank you and God bless. :)

Two different firing systems, which can not be compared for the purpose of this discussion. Advise your friend to practice DA/SA fire. That is my preferred operating system and with a little practice is not difficult to master. If he wants SA only, how about a 1911? These days they can be had in a variety of calibers and frame sizes.

Thank you Pioneer. I think he is still considering a small frame 1911, however, he mentioned to me that they cost almost double. :) I'll pass on your thoughts on the DA/SA.

I have a Sig 229 in 9mm. I carry it cocked and locked just like I carry my 1911's. It's no big deal in a quality holster.

So your Sig 229 has a manual safety?

At first I was nervous about having one in the pipe on my Glock. But if you PAY ATTENTION to what you are doing EVERYTIME it is not a problem. I see no difference with Sig.
BTW there is a gunshop in Indy that has a Glock Approved slide safety. Installed it runs $125

Dogman,
The link is: http://www.premierarms.com/ then click on "Offered Products"
I had a heck of a time finding that again! I thought I had saved it and didn't nor did I save the email I sent out to a friend about it. However a guy here at work remembered that it was a Brownburg gun shop and the rest was easy!
I'll check the link you posted when I get home. DoD has a filter on that site for some reason

Go ahead! I don't know the gun shops outside of Columbus. Been to Don's just once and was not impressed much. J and J in Columbus is a nice place but only open 2 or 3 days a week. Sad as they had a nice slection. BTW do you know where I can find an FAL 308Win without going broke?
