In My county in upstate New York They stamp the back of our permits with the following..(valid only for hunting, fishing, trapping or target shooting and transporting weapon for such use). when permit is issued it is a license to carry. The judge in this county makes this choice, in surrounding counties they do not put this on the permits. what do You think folks. I am moving anyway but am curious to opinions. Hope Vegas George reads this.

Oh, I read it alright. Tell me, is there an actual county ordinance authorizing that restriction, or is the Judge just making the law up as he goes along?

George I guess He makes things up as He goes, I heard in a local diner today that there is a petition going around to address it, but I have not seen it Yet I have thought it was BS for years but I guess We have all been afraid to question it in fear of some reprocussions. I find it hard to believe its right. What do You think the steps should be. Ron........ I will try to find out about if there is a ordinance or not.

If there is any legal recourse, short of a full blown constitutional attack, it would depend on the exact wording of the law in your State, and possibly County. There has been so much to do over the NY City gun ban and SCOTUS case that I have to admit that I'm unaware of the status of 2nd Amendment rights in other areas of NY.

If your moving away I'd let it go and get out of town, cause short of a lawsuit nothing will happen to change it. JMHO

Looking at THE LAW here on carry concealed.net under New York state LTC law, it says The Penal Law does not specifically authorize the placing of restrictons on pistol permits. However court decisions have consistently supported the ability of licensing officials to impose the restrictions.
It sounds like your New York State LTC was neutered by the judge. You might as well be in "right denied Illinois", of course the only good thing is if you had a legal residence in one of the surrounding counties that don't add restrictions you could carry in the county you are now in. I don't know what it takes to make a place your legal residence in New York state. I do recall that when George Bush 41 was in office his legal residence was a motel room in Texas that he spent maybe 2 weeks a year at.
Since you have a New York State permit you might want to consider getting a Pennsylvania non-resident permit, especially if moving out of state. Pa does require you have your states LTC if they issue. Many states of course require you to have their permit if you are a resident, but many do recognize non-resident LTC. I have a friend who was moving to Tennessee to work for a while, but lived in Illinois. I told him he could get a Pa permit but he waited too long and ended up moving before it arrived. I don't think they allowed forwarding to his new address, he's kept a legal residence here though.
