I have made up my mind to try and be more observant our elected officals and what they are up too. And to let them know what and where to vote (especially on issues related to the 2nd Ammendment rights) ... towards that end, I have been keeping my eye on the new session ... Here are 3 bills listes (so far) to watch ... all 3 are 'for' us, and I've not seen any against ...
Sorry I don't have the link or remember the general verbage right now ...
SB 0011
SB 0012
and
HB 1011
I'll try to remember to post a link to these (unless someone else gets to it first) ...
Lets be sure to speak up so the good ones get passed - perhaps even without much fanfare since the main thing for now seems to be the economy.

OK Here is a link to a list of all active bills this session:
http://www.in.gov/apps/lsa/session/billwatch/billinfo?year=2009&session=1&request=all
SB-0011: Prevents private areas from not allowing you to have a firearm locked in your car (excludes schools, jails, military and other such protected areas)
SB-0012: Prevents State Univ's from adopting stricter rules than the legislature (IE - opens state universities for CC)
HB-1011: Prevents taking of legal owned, carried, possessed firearms during an emergency (apparently some local areas still have ordinances that would allow this).
... so all of these look like they are good for us (I've only had time to read synopsis', not the full text) ... there are more listed today ... I will check them out at lunch ...

Here is a brief update on the current bill proposed in the indiana state legislature ...
There are 5 in the Senate:
SB-0011 protects firearms in locked vehicles
SB-0012 prohibits state univ.'s from regulating firearms
SB-0361 brief read shows basically similar to SB-0011
SB-0493 means to suspend/reinstate an LTC w/ opinion from "Prof" (ie doc)
SB-0555 lmits sale to mentally ill (?); provides means to reinstate
and 4 in the House:
HB-1011 prevents localites ability to seize in emergency
HB-1013 protects firearems in locked vehicles (see SB-0011 ???)
HB-1126 extends renewal from 180 day to 2 yrs
HB-1375 repeals local gov authority to seize in emergency (HB-1011??)
most of these seem to be "GOOD" - although the last 2 in the senate I am not certain about ... opionions would be great ...
Also - to those of you w/ more experience 'contacting' your local legilators ... any suggestions on how to write to them to express my view on these would be great. my state sen and rep are on a couple of the committee's these were sent to for review etc. ... I'd like to write to mine BEFORE these get killed in committee (or passed if they are actually bad) ...
i don't want to just sit on the sideliens ...
1 more for those of you that carry other things around in the fall (I mean that hunt ... ;))
HB-1244 is proposed to re-instate lifetime hunting and fishing licenses.
(this may break my bank ... but I'm hoping they do it w/o raising the prices much for a year to two ... )

Write to your legislators in both the House and the Senate, as well as to Gov. Daniels. In addition, write to the chairman of each committee to which a bill you want has been introduced. You can make a phone call, write a postcard, or if you must, write an email, but the more effort you have to put into contacting them, the more important it is to them. When writing, keep it short and sweet.
Salutation,
Purpose of contact in one or two sentences. Numbers of bills here is a good thing. Make sure you have the correct numbers.
Space down, give a VERY brief reason for your support of the bills.
Space down. Repeat purpose of contact. Thank them for doing the job you hired them to do (not in that wording).

Name of your city
That should cover it as a basic template. It's very tempting to give them a long diatribe as to your reasoning, but they will not read it. Sometimes it's tempting to be sarcastic. This can backfire. Short, sweet, direct, and clear are good pieces of advice when contacting them-think of them as children with short spans of attention and who need direction to do the right thing.

Blessings,
Bill
