Hunter, fast and fancy handgun shooter. I followed Ed McGivern and can do much to about 65 yards but can't even begin to duplicate what he did at 600 and 1000 yds with handguns.

I have one complaint in Oregon and why I don't have a CCW. If pulled over for traffic, police will call in by radio and announce you possess a CCW, name address, etc. Anyone listening on a scanner will obtain the info as well. Possibly a criminal that might slip by my house. Doesn't even matter if you are carrying at the time or not. When that changes, I will very likely get a CCW. As it is, I have about the same already carrying in plain sight without them announcing it to the world.

I don't really carry concealed. I do what I call concealed in plain sight. It was legal in Arizona before CCW's and is in Oregon. My concealed in plain sight preference is a 2 shot .38 Special Derringer that is in a belt buckle with release. Funny no one ever even seems to notice.

I am also proud to say that other than a state hunting license and NRA membership, there is nothing connecting me to gun ownership in government records. None of my guns are registered and perhaps half don't have serial numbers. No, they're not removed. They're so old that manufacturers didn't even place them.

I went into the Army in June 1965 and my father died the following month of wounds and illness caused in WWII. He was 90% VA disabled, missing left leg at hip, right lung, teeth and lots of shrapnel from being machine gunned. And I held the status of being "sole surviving son," exempting me from combat zones. Still, I found myself in Viet Nam in November 1966 and complained profusely. I wrote Senator Goldwater at least 30 times about the error of being there. And during week 49 of my tour, I finally got out. Wounded! Another 3 weeks and the tour would have been over and me home. Yep! I was there and did my part but I want to be clear it wasn't exactly willingly. Spend a week in a combat zone and under fire only idiots play those John Wayne (wannabe hero) and Audie Murphy (a real and highly decorated hero) roles. And thank god for those idiots.

A bit of study of people listed on the Wall. So many died on either their birthday, first month and last month. I think I know the reasons. There was a sick humor of risky assignments for new guys as well as those about to go home. And risky assignments also for birthdays.
