I'm so jealous of today's military pay/ When I enlisted in 1965 it was $78 a month. And there were deductions like Social Security, State and Federal Taxes and a voluntary contribution to the soldiers and sailors home. Yeah, you're probably saying a buck went further then. Yes, it did. But after soap, deodorant, razor blades, Brasso and boot polish we hyad juast about enough for a couple cartons of cigarettes and a Saturday night at the EM Club or PX beer hall.
Still you guys are far underpaid when put into combat situations. Anyone that has experienced combat and especially wounded realizes that.
I had a philosophy in Viet Nam. That was to stay in close proximity to a major or better. Find yourself a Lt. General, you're really safe. A sergeant or Lt was always referred to as a suicide patrol. I hope all overseas return home soon and safely and we get back the way things should be: Scaring the hell out of the bad guys while home, at sea and in the sky. Knowing we have the technology to crush them like bugs without even setting foot on their soil.
