Three robbers dressed as cops shoved their way into a Brooklyn home, shooting the owner in the leg. The owner thought the guns were fake so he pulled a knife. McCullom said; "I was hoping they were toy guns, but obviously they were not." The robbers fled with a heavy safe that was too heavy for them to carry. The safe contained $120,000 worth of baseball cards and was dropped about a block from the house. Real police arrested one of the robbers when they came back for the safe. Police were able to recover the safe, a gun, vest, badge, box of ammunition and a set of brass knuckles.
The question for discussion would be: "Did the home owner do the right thing by pulling a knife? What would you do?

OK, I'll bite. Isn't this just a new twist on the old joke about "bringing a knife to a gunfight?" The homeowner's explanation that he thought the robbers' guns were "fake," defies all logic. I've heard plenty of stories about bank tellers and store clerks being robbed by someone holding a toy gun. But, reason dictates that the victim take the matter seriously. I've never heard a story like this one, where the victim just decides that the gun isn't real. What a dummy!
It gets worse, the more I think about it. I can understand how a toy gun can be mistaken for a real one. (And, like I meant above, who in his right mind would take a chance on it!) But how does it work the other way around? How do you mistake a real gun for a toy? I've never seen a real gun that had any toy like features about it.
I think this may be a great example of the liberal, anti-gun mentality that lives in that fantasy world which just doesn't allow for the possibility of gun violence. "That can't be a real gun, because everyone knows that guns are bad, so no one would use one (against me)." It's the same kind of screwed up thinking that leads liberals to post "No guns allowed" signs, and believe that solves the potential gun violence problem in our schools and other "gun free zones." These people actually need psychological help. The scary thing is, they are in charge in a lot of situations and are an extreme danger to themselves and the rest of us.
Oh, and to answer your question: No, I wouldn't pull a knife on someone holding me at gunpoint, unless I thought I was going to be shot regardless.

3 robbers dressed as cops busting into his home? Something about this situation sound odd? Why were they going into his home in the first place and why would he think a cop would hold a toy gun, unless of course he was holding a costume party and figured these were guests.
What would I do? Don't know not enough facts on where the men were or their intenet. Pulling a knife on 3 armed men you had better be dang good or you are going to die.
If all you had was a knife and three men barged in all you can do is comply until they show deadly force. Trying to move you to another location or tie you up is a dead givaway that you may not live - time to do something.
