View Full Version : Right to Carry: 49 and 1? :)
Bill of Rights

I got a forward from our own Lady Di last night that apparently, some pizza driver in WI found himself afoul of the law for defending himself from violent criminals with his concealed weapon-and a judge finally ruled that the law forbidding CCW was anathema to the state constitution's precept that the people have a right to self defense.

Does this mean we're now at 49 and 1? Is Ill-annoy the final holdout and will this pressure be enough to change that, too?
I don't know the answers, but I think this is exceedingly good news, and I can't speak for anyone else, but da*n, I can USE some good news!
Blessings,

This is an excellent result in the particular case. But, unfortunately, trial court rulings do not carry the weight of precedent to influence other judges, and this ruling will only impress prosecutors in that exact jurisdiction, where that judge may wind up hearing the case. It does not nullify the State law.

VegasGeorge,
Another factor to consider is the fact that juries have more power than judges. Many citizens just don't realize it. We need to educate the sheeple about a nearly forgotten principle in our judicial system. It's called jury nullification. Check it out here:

Nice site Lady Di, very informative.
Yes, I'm very aware of jury nullification. Sometimes I become discouraged thinking about the absence of justice in our society. Jury nullification is one bright light in that rather gloomy sphere.

Keep up the hope, VegasGeorge, because I've read recent accounts where jury nullification succeeded in nullifying unjust laws. Like I said in another post, education is the key. This site does much in that regard, and I'm thankful to those who are making the sacrifices and commitment to make this happen. :D
