I thought I would bring up the subject of what is often referred to as "fanny pack carry" in Illinois. It is also called "6 seconds from safety" by the Champaign County Rifle Association, they have information on their website gunssavelife.com/about.htm They refer to concealed carry as "1 second from safety" so maybe "fanny packing" is less than a second class substitute. The definition refers to carrying a hangun in a fanny pack designed to carry a firearm. The handgun is unloaded but a loaded magazine is carried in the same fanny pack. You must have a valid FOID (firearm owners ID) card. State laws refer to transporting a firearm unloaded in a case, firearm shipping box, or other container. Some Wildlife Code regulations are more specific requiring a case designed for a firearm. Usual warning- I am not as lawyer. Yes I do this. Additional warning- you may get arrested, don't know of anyone convicted of UUW while "fanny packing" though.

I conceal carry on a Pennsylvania handgun license when I visit Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri and other states where it is recognized. No you don't need to live in Pa to get it.

Anyone interested in getting CCW legislation in Illinois is urged to go to Illinoiscarry.com and get involved in the forum. Someone there mentioned this forum.

I'm sorry, but this is just so absurd! It's illegal to carry a loaded gun, but legal to "transport" an unloaded gun with a loaded magazine right next to it. What do these idiot legislators think. (Oops, sorry, I forgot that they usually don't think.) A criminal doesn't give two hoots about the law so they carry loaded guns all the time. The honest citizen is handicapped by the 6 second delay in getting his gun loaded. And, does anyone honestly think that taking 6 seconds to load the gun is going to stop any crazies out there who are intent on shooting up a school or restaurant?

I'm really tired of reading about laws that are completely senseless. It makes me feel like I'm surrounded by fools.

I have also added them to the link section in the back. Thank you for bringing them up. We need all of the good information sites we can get.

Thanks for your posts.

Well look at it this way in a situation like Luby Cafeterria where Suzanna Hupp didn't have her handgun there because it was illegal, 6 seconds can be a long time, but maybe in that situation or a mall shooting some lives would be saved. Much better than calling 911 and waiting for the LEOs. Think about this many of you outside Illinois may to go to church, have a CCW permit and are defenseless because the CCW laws prohibit carry there. I go and have a firearm available in 6 seconds. Some were saved in Pearl Mississippi because an assistant principle had a firearm in his car 1000 feet from the school, much better to have it on his person of course and best to have it loaded. Realize that these legislators were probably thinking mostly about firearms transported in vehicles and being carried to hunting areas, but the legislation mentions nothing of vehicles or where you have to be taking the firearm to. This came about in the Safe Neighborhoods Legislation passed a few years ago.

I agree with you the criminals don't care what the law is. That is why we need concealed carry in Illinois.

P.S. Can you carry in church in Nevada? It doesn't make much sense to prohibit it but many states do. That makes them a soft target for muslim terrorists.
