In my personal list, that is rule number ONE.

Every gun is always loaded. Period.

I have been in a bedroom when an "unloaded" high powered rifle blew a hole in the ceiling, went through the roof, and knocked a brick out of the chimney outside.

I personally "unloaded" my winchester 22 pump. I pulled the slide clear out of the magazine and dumped "all" the bullets out. I opened the receiver and made sure the breach was empty. I replaced the magazine slide and handed the "unloaded" rifle to a friend. He racked the pump and shot a hole in the ceiling of my apartment. It seems that a bullet had hung up in the magazine when I dumped it, and got loaded when my friend racked the pump.

The bottom line is: Every gun is always loaded. Period.

I love that line "I am the only one professional enough, that I know of, in this room, to handle a Glock .40..BANG".

Thank God he at least had it pointed at himself and not the kids!

He also sued the DEA who had the only copy of the video.

Exactly what grounds did this guy have to sue anyone? There was an incident. It was recorded on film. It happened in public. No privacy concerns, so.... for what did he sue?

Blessings,
M

....so.... for what did he sue?

I love these kind of guessing games. The only thing I can think of is that he had some argument for asserting ownership rights to the video recording. Maybe something to do with his employment contract, or the ownership of the camera or recorder that was used. He probably sued in an attempt to retrieve the recording. That's my guess anyway.

OK, so I'm not really getting up on a soapbox to b!tch about this-what the hell, it wouldn't do any good anyway, and you all probably have a fair idea what I'd say, too, though some of it would probably have to have a [CENSORED] sticker put over it. I'll just let the little guy on the soapbox say it all.

Blessings,
M

He forgot about the rule Keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot. Hopefully this guy has a desk job now. I liked the full video with the students scattering, I would have as well. I imagine he is a cop that shoots his handgun once a year at the range before qualifying, when he isn't shooting himself in the foot. He should do "Barry Fife Carry" and keep his handgun unloaded with one round in his pocket.

Sadly, here in Oregon we recently had a young woman accidentally killed by her husband when he was practicing his draw from a holster. :(

He was a decorated vet, recently back from Iraq, and had gotten a job as an LEO across the river in Vancouver, WA. He was supposed to start this week.

He was practicing his draw, she entered the room, <strike>the gun went off</strike> he inadvertently pulled the trigger, the gun discharged, wounding her fatally in the abdomen.

Please, for the sake of innocent bystanders and loved ones:
never, ever, EVER assume that a gun is unloaded.

(I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but I think it still bears repeating)

UPDATE: changed the wording a little, as I realised I erroneously said "the gun went off." As I know from reading that many here agree, guns don't "just go off."

Amen, brother!

Listen up, all you ribbon clerks out there. This is really important.

The gun is ALWAYS loaded.

Even when I've broken my gun down, even when the barrel is completely out of it, even when the frame and slide are separated, I STILL treat the gun as if it were loaded.

The gun is ALWAYS loaded.
