It looks like it worked. I would love a new bullet proof vest. Mine is old. With my luck I will run into a bad guy that is a good shot and hits me in the head.

On the issue of vests, I read a suggestion somewhere that kids be advised to use their schoolbooks as shields in case of a school shooting situation. That got me thinking about do it yourself, homemade body armor. If books would actually stop handgun rounds, a simple vest could be made with front pockets to accommodate large books. Has anyone taken an assortment of books out and tried shooting at them. How many pages are required to stop a .38, a 9mm, a .40, a .45? That would be interesting information.

I think it's less "how many pages" and more the idea of 30 students throwing 10-15 pound books at the mutt that makes the "shield". If the books are flying at him followed by that many people, granted someone is going to be at least shot AT, but the chance is greater that he's going to be overcome and possibly disarmed, rather than kill a classroom full of helpless hostages.
THIS is what our kids need to know and practice, so that if/when the first person drops, they don't all lose confidence and cower back. It's a dangerous world, and sequestering them in the false security of a "gun free zone" will only paralyze them when the falseness of that security becomes evident.
That's my view, anyway.
Blessings,
M
