In unincorporated areas in Texas, you can shoot on your property, providing the bullets do not leave your property.

Been many years but carrying firearms in vehicles was much like California. Firearm in trunk and ammo in passenger compartment. That included pistols and long guns.

Unrelated to guns, all Texas waterways, including lacks, rivers and ocean are public domain. You have right of access. This is the same as in Mexico from which the state suceeded. Can't shoot there, but often gives you access to areas you can.

They have also posted a new statute that allows ANY driver that is legally allowed to purchase a hand gun to carry in the car with out a CCW permit.

From our law page....

HB 1815 was actually passed to clarify some issues left dangling by a similarly-enacted law in 2005, according to Wendy Hopper, Texas Senator Craig Estes’ executive assistant. Now, it simply isn’t an offense to carry a gun in a vehicle, but with these three critical qualifiers: (1) the gun must be concealed; (2) the carrier cannot be involved in criminal activities; (3) the carrier cannot be a member of a criminal gang. The fourth rule isn’t mentioned in the bill, but stands from laws on the books for a long time, and that is that no felon can carry or even be around a gun.

HB 1817 only applies to carrying a handgun in your car. Note that it has to be your car or under your control. IOW you can't carry without a license in someone else's car. Nor is there any provision allowing you to legally take the gun out of the car if you get into a situation.

There is no Texas law against carrying a long gun, loaded or not, in most locations including inside your car. (The list of six places civilian possession of all firearms are prohibited is in PC 46.03.)

As codified under Penal Code 46.02 (a-1)(2)(B) Texas car carry is illegal if the person is "prohibited by law from possessing a firearm;"
