Lets discuss something that has not been brought up....

How do you carry?
Do you only carry when you go to and from certain places?
What holster you prefer, and wether you draw using left or right hand?

(please make comments about where and when generic, i.e. i only carry when i am in the rough side of town, i never carry at the grocery store, walmart comments are ok, just want to make sure we keep everyone here safe)

For me I currently do not have a CCW permit or a gun YET but i will be taking the class this week, once i am done with that i will then purchase my first pistol. But once I do begin to carry I will never do so when I go to work simply because I can litterly see my work from home (yes it is a little too close to home but I spend less on gas for my commut to work than you do. hehehehe) and other than that there would be few and far between places that it would not go with me.

I carry on my right side using an inside the pants holster. I carry everyday. I have carried in 16 states this year and in some places you don't want to hear about.
I do not carry additional ammo.
I do not carry non lethal weapons, like I should.

I perscribe to the thought that if you carry and practice all the time with the same weapons carried in the same place then your chances of surviving a lethal encounter increases. I have seen people under stress forget where they are carrying.

If you make it a habit and instill it in your subconcious by practice and training it will help you survive.

Nodaywithout is this what you are looking for?

IWB at 4 o'clock or so, one extra mag, and if I leave the house without it, it's because I've made a specific, conscious decision to do so. Otherwise, it's like sticking my wallet in my pocket or grabbing my keys before I leave-it's just part of my daily wear. I'll consider non-lethal weapons when I get word that the criminals are doing likewise.

M

Yes it is, i am not looking so much for ideas, but mainly just trying to fufil my curiosity. I think it is cool that you have carried in 16 states, this year, i wish i had the oppertunity to leave state more than once a year.

All basic CCW courses and all advanced courses outline the dangers and opportunities of non-lethal force. Right now it seems to be pepper spray and tasers being discussed. When I started it was martial arts training.

All non lethal products have strenghts and weakness. They may keep you out of jail.
If someone is determined to slap the snot out of you or is just beligerant what you gonna do. Kill them? Brandish your weapon?

Spray them, leave and call 911 to tell them what you did.

Racoon do you have any insight on this?

I really wish I did not have to carry everwhere I go but I know there are a bunch of really bad people out there that will not hesitate to try and hurt you and me. I also work with people who are use to being around weapons so there is no apprehension.
Carry for protection in a professional manner not to be cool. Having the potential to kill someone in a split second is not cool. It is an awsome responsibility.

Unfortunately, Dan, not all of these courses go over those details, though I agree with you that they should. We have no course requirement here in IN, thus, no standard set of things that will be imparted to the students.

My own reading of lethal force law has me satisfied that I know when and when not to use force of that nature, and while I have not the finances to support shooting as much or as often as I'd like, I'm satisfied that I'm good enough, even allowing for the halving of accuracy brought on by combat and adrenalin.

With that said, you asked, "if someone is determined to slap the snot out of you or is just beligerant, what you gonna do?"

Since I don't know his intent, nor do I know just how far he wants to go, if telling him, "I don't want any trouble." doesn't work and he still seems intent on doing me harm, I don't see that I have any choice BUT to draw. Alternatively, if he's just (vocally) belligerent, his words are not sufficient threat to let me do that. I'll just do what I can to stay out of situations like that, and use the best weapon I have (the one between my ears) to avoid trouble if possible

I do know that police courses have you take a hit of pepper spray so you know what you're dishing out, but I've seen what that stuff does and I want no part of it. Some might call me a wuss for that, and that's their choice. I prefer to think of it as "wisdom".

The best for me is inside the waistband.

In the hot sumer months, I carry in a bag of one sort or another. The light weight clothing and heat just aren't conducive to concealed carry on the person. As soon as it cools down some, as it's starting to now, I will carry in an outside holster covered by a shirt jacket or vest. Or, sometimes inside the waistband with the shirt tucked over the top of the pistol. On rare occasions I carry in my Thunderwear.

I carry just about everywhere I go. I do leave the gun at home when I go to our community fitness center to work out. I don't trust the locker security there, and the locker room thing is too much of a hassle. I also leave the gun at home when I'm just going to an early morning weight watchers weigh in. Of course, if I was really serious about CCW and weight, I'd loose an extra 2 pounds to allow me to get on the scale wearing my gun.

I carry all the time! I carry around the house. I carry as much as humanly possible simply for the fact that if you do not carry everywhere you can, you are not serious about self-preservation! How do you know WHEN you are going to be attacked?

The only places I don't carry are those that I am prohibited by law.

Train hard, train often, and train REALISTICALLY!!!

When I carry in a bag, it's on my left side in a cross draw position. When I carry in a holster, it is on my right, strong side.
