No question here, just a welcome to the newcomer to CCW, or the person who is trying to decide if they're willing to take on a responsiblity like this.

Congratulations for making the first step, which is to consider this lifestyle. There are an enormous number of responsibilities inherent in the decision to be armed, but in my opinion, they are absolutely worth the knowledge that never again does the risk exist for the responsible gun owner, carrying legally, that he or she will be left only with the option of waiting to be victimized or executed.

I am in Texas and I am confused on whether or not I can carry at church. Some of the literature says no and others say not if it is posted but otherwise yes. Anybody know?

As per Sec. 46.035, (b) (6) of Texas Penal Code, yes, it is prohibited.

§ 46.035. UNLAWFUL CARRYING OF HANDGUN BY LICENSE
HOLDER. (a) A license holder commits an offense if the license
holder carries a handgun on or about the license holder's person
under the authority of Subchapter H, Chapter 411, Government Code,
and intentionally fails to conceal the handgun.
(b) A license holder commits an offense if the license
holder intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly carries a handgun
under the authority of Subchapter H, Chapter 411, Government Code,
regardless of whether the handgun is concealed, on or about the
license holder's person:
(1) on the premises of a business that has a permit or
license issued under Chapter 25, 28, 32, 69, or 74, Alcoholic
Beverage Code, if the business derives 51 percent or more of its
income from the sale or service of alcoholic beverages for
on-premises consumption, as determined by the Texas Alcoholic
Beverage Commission under Section 104.06, Alcoholic Beverage Code;
(2) on the premises where a high school, collegiate,
or professional sporting event or interscholastic event is taking
place, unless the license holder is a participant in the event and a
handgun is used in the event;
(3) on the premises of a correctional facility;
(4) on the premises of a hospital licensed under
Chapter 241, Health and Safety Code, or on the premises of a nursing
home licensed under Chapter 242, Health and Safety Code, unless the
license holder has written authorization of the hospital or nursing
home administration, as appropriate;
(5) in an amusement park; or
(6) on the premises of a church, synagogue, or other
established place of religious worship.

Yes you may carry concealed in a church in Texas. Read further down in 46.035 to subsection (i) "Subsections (b)(4), (b)(5), (b)(6), and (c) do NOT apply if the actor was not given effective notice under Section 30.06."

So churches in Texas must post in order to prevent you from carrying. :!:

I suppose we all know that the Apostles, or at least some of them, carried swords. I wonder if Jesus posted, "No Swords Allowed," signs before he sat down with them? Just a thought.

I recently applied and got my permit in upstate NY. When at the sheriff's department filling out the initial paperwork, I was asked what I would be using my .22 pistol for. I told the clerk I'd be using it for target shooting. She asked if I would be using it at home or if I planned to use it off my property. I told her I would probably use off my property as well as at home. She then checked the box on the paperwork with "CC" next to it. Nowhere on my permit does it say anything about carrying concealed nor is there any place to to mark it. Does that mean I can use my pistol as a concealed carry weapon?

I would assume NO as every CCW/CCL/CWL etc i have ever seen states "Concealed....." in bold letters for me it says "Concealed Weapon Liscense" right at the top then all my personal info at the bottom, also on the rear of mine it states what i weapons i may carry.

Wow, we have no stipulation on what we can carry. I actually didn't even qualify for the CWP instructor because my M9 qualification in the military was still valid. At the time my carry weapon was a Beretta 92F so if there ever was an issue, I did technically qualify with what I was carrying.

How does that work? Do you have to qualify with each weapon before you can carry it?
