Hi from TN

Hey guys, I am new to the site...name is Joel..I am waitin patiently for my carry permit to arrive in the mail....its been 2 weeks, 1 day, and 14hrs...I am not counting...lol...I lived in CA my whole life (33 yrs) without even thinking about carrying a gun...then I apply for it, and I run to the maibox everyday like a 5 yr old thinking "it might be here, maybe they werent that busy..." LOL, I am a wreck!


I was turned on to this site when Clark came to visit us on http://www.tngunowners.com/index.php

you guys should come check it out...very cool site with lots on information...especially if you are comin to TN for any reason and plan on packin.

I remember the "wait." Here in Nevada we wait several months. It's a disgrace, really. It almost felt as if the State was waiting an extra long time to see if I would screw up, so they could jump in and deny my CCW. I mean really, I'd lived 50+ years without screwing up, so they thought I was going to screw up in the next 4 months? Hah!

Anyway, enjoy the Forum. We have a good group here.

My experience.

I went to our local police department and had the detectives fingerprint me. they dont do this very often. Then I sent it all in. After about a month or so, I got a letter saying that my fingerprints were unreadable and try again. I went to the Sheriff's office where they book the prisoners and had them done again. This time it went through. But, when approved, I got a call from the Sheriff's office telling me I needed to come in and get my ID. They have them sent there and you have to go pick it up. It took 89 days. This was, of course, just after 9/11/01.

Wow, a 4 month wait for a CCW license in Nevada. It takes about 10 days usually from when the application is mailed to when you receive a non-resident Pennsylvania permit, mine came in just less than that, snail mailed both ways. Here in Illinois of course you could wait your entire lifetime, as they don't issue. The Illinois Firearm Owners ID card, requrired of all firearm owners, by law is supposed to be issued in 30 days, but the Illinois State Police is taking longer now sometimes 60 I understand. How can one state be so efficient and others so slow?

Please accept a Hoosier welcome. We no longer have Bobby Knight I'm happy to say, but Indiana does now has a lifetime permit option, which took me three weeks to receive. Before the new law, the permit was only valid for four years. It's too bad we've allowed legislators to license our "right" to keep and bear arms. Maybe someday we'll elect statesmen who respect the constitution enough to honor it.
