A robbery and crime spree aided by an unloaded gun came to a halt late Thursday when the gunman met more than his match: a gun with bullets.

Charles Parker Jr., 18, of Detroit was killed when a 53-year-old man pulled out a 9mm handgun and shot the teen, who was armed with an unloaded .22-caliber handgun.

After the shooting, police questioned the 53-year-old man and released him, noting that he had a valid concealed weapons permit.

Then they gave him back his gun.

If the first rule of a gunfight is "Bring a gun.", the second is surely, "Bring bullets, too, genius."

Then again, Mr. Parker was a criminal and didn't follow rules. No shocker there.

Cogito, ergo porto.

One thing I have learned over the years is that there are an astounding number of half wits running around out there. It took me a while to realize that fact. But, the apparent insanity of the world started making more sense to me once I realized that many people are just pitifully stupid.

Oh dear, I think this post makes me seem elitist. It's not true, I tell you, not true!

It's not elitist to note the lack of intelligence of some people. I used to work with a guy a long time ago who would, in a sad voice and with a shake of his head, comment, "Some people's children...."

I also know some EMTs and paramedics who refer to stupid people as "job security".
