Bill of Rights

Good question. Another good question is, "why do we have to? If anyone else had hired people to cross state lines and attempt to purchase firearms in violation of the current unConstitutional BATFE regulations, that person would not be the mayor of a major US city, that person would be wearing an orange jumpsuit with numbers and the word INMATE on it.

I guess, like OJ, he's as innocent as money can buy. Go ahead, ATF, prove me wrong! Try him, convict him, and imprison him, and I'll happily take back every word.

Cogito, ergo porto.

Blessings,

We in the State of New York need to elect the officials that will abide by the Statutes of the State, the Constitution and that will uphold them as written.
Only when the 2nd Ammendment is looked at and accepted by all the political powers will we be able to say we have made progress.
No other right guarranteed by the Constitution is embroiled in such a mix mash of opinions as the 2nd.
We guarrantee free speach and the only issues are that we have to decide what constitutes free speach.
We have the right to keep and bear arms, yet that is not a given, we have not even made it past the point where we all agree that is what it says...
Fear of armed citizens is what keeps us in this area, not from other citizens but from the Govt. and the State.
Armed we are citizens, unarmed we are subjects.
I support the entire document, all of it, for to do anything else would in effect disrespect and negate all the lives that have been lost defending it.

Thank you fishman! You have the right idea, and its good to see you expressing yourself on the board.

The bastardization of the 2nd Amendment is something of a puzzle. It has been treated differently than the other rights expressed in the Bill of Rights. I believe that the 2nd Amendment has suffered for two reasons.

Firstly, just as the framers intended, an armed citizenry is a threat to tyrannical government. Since all government tends toward the tyrannical, it is only natural that government should view the 2nd Amendment as its enemy. That's why proponents of big government loath the 2nd Amendment.

Secondly, America has tamed the wilderness, and has been isolated from armed conflicts. The daily need and use of firearms has diminished since revolutionary days. We have become "civilized." These conditions have lulled the average American citizen into a complacency about dangers that might require the use of deadly force. We have become more fearful of the sight of our neighbor walking down the street carrying a gun, that we are of the possibility of being attacked by a wild animal, or a foreign enemy. This has resulted in a willingness to allow government to violate the Second Amendment in the name of civil order. A terrible mistake!

Fortunately, in an ironic sense, changes are taking place that seem to be making a difference. People are starting to fear terrorists, criminals, and crazies. Suddenly the neighbor with the gun doesn't looks so scary anymore. And, people are starting to question government's motives and rational in promoting gun restrictions. I sense things are moving in the right direction. Bloomberg and his ilk better start moving too, or else they are going to be left behind.
