The DOD Budget. The President's budget request for DOD in FY08 was $459B. The request for Department of Health and Human Services was $700B.
Welfare gets more than the DOD budget. :shock: :shock:

That would be because there are more people leeching off of the welfare system http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd198/St-Michael/drool.gif than there are working in the US Military. http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd198/St-Michael/shooter.gif

Welfare recipients aren't satisfied with "a chicken in every pot" anymore. :roll:

Have you ever stopped to consider all the expenses we are forced to pay for other people? Here is a list, just off the top of my head. I'm sure there's a lot more"
welfare housing
welfare food
welfare medical
prison room and board
prison guarding
prison programs
illegal alien education
illegal alien medical
public defenders, trials and appeals
foreign aid
These are all expenses we are forced by the government to pay for the benefit of other people. It adds up to many billions of dollars.
Oh, and I didn't even include any of the quasi rip off expenses like Medicare. The next time I hear some 300 lb. woman complaining that she has to wait for her knee/hip replacement until her doctor can get her diabetes under control, I'm going to start screaming at her. :evil:

I am not rich, but if they raise taxes, I will have more disposable income by not working as hard. So a lot less taxes will be paid. I wonder how many would do that? :shock: :evil:

And to think our founders quibbled over a small tea tax. I wonder what they'd think of us today. :cry:

It wasn't just the small tea tax, of course, but your point is well made and well-taken. Stubob, that works if you happen to be on the break point of tax brackets. Sadly, I think it would be pointless, however, because all it would do would be to increase the deficit we're already operating in. I still favor the idea I think I quoted here, to give every American, man, woman, or child, $10,000 on Jan. 1 of each year, with the stipulation that barring catastrophic circumstances (and I mean real catastrophes, like WTC2001), that is the sum total of government benefits each of us would get that year. Given that amount, every person would be above the poverty line, and the government would spend less of our money on entitlement programs to boot.
