It's getting ridiculous in Illinois.

OK, the gun range has been there for untold years... have there been any instances of problems or interference with planes on takeoff or approach? If not, they need to butt the hell out of these people's privately owned property and leave them to their lawful commerce. "Eminent domain", used in this manner, is simply armed robbery with the tyrannical government as the perpetrator.

Here's a little more of the story:

This illustrates a pet peeve of mine. I loath the incompetent reporting these days. I don't know about you, but I would be interested to know just what the perceived public safety issue is. After all, that's why the eminent domain action has been filed, right? But all the stories say is that the gun range is in the air field glide path. So what? Are they worried that planes might crash on shooters? Or, are they worried that shooters might hit airplanes with their shots? Or, is it something else altogether? I guess we will never know.

If I was guessing, I'd say what they're afraid of is people practicing with their guns. The airfield approach is a convenient excuse.
Just a guess, though.

Maybe the county has a developer that wants the property and they'd like to get more real estate taxes from it. Thanks to our U.S. supreme court local government can use eminent domain in that way. Not sure that is what is happening but it might be.
