Knives, Not Guns, Have Been Weapon of Choice in Campus Crimes, Study Finds

From the Washington Post
More than 3 percent of 17 million crimes reported from 2000 through 2004 occurred at schools, colleges and universities, with knives being the most commonly used weapon, according to an FBI study released yesterday.

The Crime in Schools and Colleges study, which gathered data from about a third of the nation's law enforcement agencies, showed that the most commonly used weapon in more than 558,000 campus-related crimes over the five-year span was a knife -- not counting fists and feet, which accounted for most of the incidents.

In no way shape or form am i against guns on campus for if you are not a student of that campus (in a good portion of campuses) you can carry on campus just not into any of the buildings, but if you are a student you can not carry on campus period.

Does this seem odd?

On the bright side there are a handful of college campuses that do allow students to carry nearly everywhere

George Mason University was considering prohibiting carry on campus a short time back. I'm not sure what was decided. I imagine George Mason is spinning in his grave. A quote of his I like "Disarming the people [is} the best and most effectual way to enslave them"

Talking about knives reminds me of a conversation I had with a friend who had been a missionary in Tiawan. We were talking about drive by shootings. I said I expected that didn't happen much in Tiawan. He said no but drive by slashins were common. Someone would come by on a bicycle or motorcycle slash a person with a knife and drive off. He said there were gangs there as well. He mentioned a teacher at a school reprimanding a gang member. They found her body in a river, she hand been bound and put in a gunny sack and apparently thrown off a bridge. Well at least they have gun control there!
