What do you all think of the latest technology that is now made available to the public? Cell phone jammers are being used illegally to disrupt cell phone usage of private citizens. I don't understand why some people get upset when others talk on their cell phones in public. If you're on a bus talking on the cell phone how would that be any different from talking to a real person sitting next to you? Same question if you're in a restaurant. I could see how these jammers could interfere with someone wanting to make an emergency call.
Here's the story from yesterday's New York Times:

Just buying one would put you on a short list. There will be a black market for them. Thanks for posting.

I'm sure there will be a market in places like "right denied" Illinois among criminals. That main line of defense among Illinoisans from criminal attack may be the "magic cell phone" there to summon 911 to save you from personal attack. Now criminals will be able to cut that "life line".

Why bother "cutting the lifeline"? All 911 is in that context is, as has been said many times, "Government-sponsored Dial-a-prayer".
As for the article, it strikes me that this is simply a way to not have to talk to people. "Pardon me, Ma'am, your voice is carrying. Would you mind talking more softly, please?" is polite, reasonable, and probably just  embarrassing enough to work.
The therapist has an easy solution; tell all clients on entering the room that their phones need to be off. Not on silent, not on vibrate, off, and the first time one rings in the middle of a session, that person needs to find a new therapist. This is a lot more effective than "if you're expecting an emergency call..." What? Yeah, I know I always schedule my emergencies and those of my family, don't all of you?
The owner of the restaurant has the best and easiest solution of all: He said he was tired of his employees focusing on their phones rather than customers, and said he told them repeatedly, "Put away your phones.", only to be ignored. The solution, and maybe I'm just radical here, but how about, "Put it away. That's one warning." "Put it away. That's a written warning. One more and you're fired." "Tell you what: if that phone's so important, talk all you want, but do it off my property. You're fired."
Why is this so hard? Have we become such wusses that we won't speak to another person who may just be unaware that they're bothering us? Have we become so disconnected we can't do that politely?http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd198/St-Michael/WTF.gifhttp://i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd198/St-Michael/bang.gif

St. Michael, Speaking of government sponsored dial a prayer (911), we've got a couple of guys remodeling our kitchen. One guy mentioned going to a house where he had a painting job. They had an alarm system and said it would be turned off. They gave him a key. He opened the door and the alarm system went off, automatically dialing 911. He said 1 hour and 15 minutes later the cops arrived. He said he just sat outside on the tailgate of his truck waiting for them to come. He told the cop, I already sold all the stuff from the house. He knew the cop BTW since he had worked at the police department for years.

There is only one word to answer that:
D'OH!!

cell phone jammers are a fed feloney,
look into the fcc laws, it is not leagle to jam ANY "radio", tv, etc.
cell phones use radio waves to work, so it is a very bad thing to jam them.
any store, movie house, etc that buys one and uses it can find his/her way to a free tip to club fed.
as for 911, sure some call it dial a prayer,
just make sure your battries are fully charged up, as you will be on hold for some time before a human answers.
