This happened in Indianapolis, which is located about 60 miles to the south of my house.

The robber is very lucky he wasn't shot and killed. Indiana located right next door to "right denied" Illinois has 300,000 handgun permit holders- that's good for concealed or open carry. It has the second highest level of CCW permits per 100 people of states in the U.S. 6.05% of the adults in Indy have permits, and in some cities it is higher. Smart criminals move to Illinois where most of the population is unarmed.

That store wasn't one of those "no guns allowed" victim zones was it?

I've heard that one can grab a gun faster than the holder can react and squeeze the trigger. I never tried it though. I think I've seen demonstrations using a flashlight instead of a gun. Maybe we all ought to give that a try and see how practical it really is.

With an estimated population of roughly 6.2 million people, that puts us at an average 5% of the population issued LTCs. I'm happy to see that, but I'd like to see that number at least doubled.
As for the article, two lines jumped out at me:
Police normally suggest victims do whatever a robber asks them to do, but in this case, the clerk's reaction paid off.

And when the sheep give the robber what he/she asks for and the robber is then emboldened to, oh, I don't know, ensure that no one is left to identify him or her, not to mention go and rob somewhere else because it worked at least once, whose fault is it?

Police said Jones had previously been incarcerated twice in robbery cases, and that he told a detective that he owed some money and needed quick cash.

He'd been locked up twice for robberies, so why was he not still locked up? Any bets he won't stay behind bars this time either? http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd198/St-Michael/bang.gif
