Oh man, this really sounds scary! I'm very afraid for the old guy in this situation. I sure hope it's determined he acted lawfully.
He shot and killed two people outside of his neighbors house just because he (1) suspected them of being burglars, and (2) they refused to stop when he confronted them. This isn't about whether or not the dead guys were really burglars. This is about whether or not there is substantial proof that the dead guys were actively engaged in the commission of a felony crime at the time they were shot. That could get real dicey.
The basic rule is you cannot shoot someone you find walking around outside your neighbor's house. There has to be a lot more to it than that to justify a shooting.

Agreed Vegas George, and I'm sure the anti-gun zealots will use it to our disadvantage.

If this is typical reporting, I wonder if the two people he shot were, oh, I don't know, carrying TVs and stereos as they came out a broken window. I know there are idiots and morons out there, but I don't think too many people would just shoot two people because they refused to stop. Additionally, who in their right mind and not committing any crime is NOT going to stop when confronted by someone with a shotgun:!: :?:
I'd bet there's LOTS more to this story than was reported.
Blessings,
M
