Have you noticed that EVERY DAY there's a story to tell about how a gun is used for protection? Here's the latest example from California.

"Guitron said no charges would be filed against him (the homeowner victim) at this time, but that the investigation was ongoing."
I know you all must get tired of reading my rants about this subject, but the press is so irresponsible and infuriatingly stupid I just can't help it. The ending sentence actually sounds like a threat. "Use a gun to defend yourself, your home, or your property, and the law is going to investigate the hell out of you, and keep investigating until they can find something to charge you with." Honestly, doesn't that last sentence in the story give you that impression? I think stories written like this are intended to discourage citizens from using firearms to protect themselves. I think it's intimidation.

Not only that, that he "managed to disarm the intruder and shot him several times, killing him in the process". Granted, it's possible it happened in that order, and it's possible that the threat was ended and he kept shooting. I don't know; all I have is this crappy "news" story, but they make it sound like he took the intruder's weapon, then just started shooting an unarmed man who offered no threat.
I don't know anyone who would intentionally shoot to kill an unarmed man unless he was still a threat in some way. I'm sure there are some people out there who would, but I don't know them. Whether it's determined that this is a good or a bad shoot, I hope justice is done.
Cogito, ergo porto.

Uh, I know you mean well, there, St. Michael. But after almost 30 years in the law, I don't think there is any such thing as "justice." In fact, I think the concept that there might be such a thing as "justice" is one of the most self destructive elements of our society. It's the idea of "doing justice" that drives all the feather headed liberals to take the side of the criminals and punish the law abiding, respectable citizens of our country. God forbid that a car jacking rapist should be shot dead in the street, instead of being treated to "justice" at our expense. I think if I hear President Bush talk about "bringing terrorists to justice" one more time, I'm just going to puke.

Let me phrase it a little better, then:
If this was a good shoot, Homeowner/victim shooting threatening intruder, I hope they no-bill him and congratulate him on a job well done.
If it was a bad shoot, ie armed homeowner blowing someone away who had ceased being a threat and had to go clean out his britches, I hope he fries.
They say the main difference between liberals and conservatives is that conservatives eat their own-meaning, for example, that if a conservative legislator screws up, the other conservatives are all over him to resign. Liberals, on the other hand.....

This guy disarmed the bad guy coming through the window and shot him. Burglary is defined as feloniously entering a building or dwelling. So simply by entering the home via the window by cover of darkness to commit a crime makes this person a felon. He at least gave this bad guy a fighting chance to fight over his gun. He lost the gun, so lost the fight, thus losing his life, being a bad guys never pays.
It is bad that through the justice system, you a guilty until proven innocent. Anybody who has worked in Law Enforcement know this as a rule. burden of proof. Investigators will look at all kind of things before it is ruled a good shoot.
That area of Indio is not the best either, lots of crime out that way. The crime rate has gone up in Riverside county over the past years, due to cost of living attracting parolees and other unwanted elements. Indio being a commuter community means it is ripe for the pickings. I have a few friends that work for the SO down there and they have had a big flux of gang members over the years.
Any day a homeowner can protect what is his, is a good day.
